Home

It wasn't a place they often visited, with its boarded up windows and overgrown ivy. The paint had chipped and curled away from the paneling and eves of the old house. He couldn't remember the last time they had visited the building that haunted their memories.

They wouldn't have come back, but it was technically his now and so when someone complained about a rotting smell wafting from the house and filling the neighborhood, they had to come back home. Back to the home that haunted their minds, that had changed their dreams, and shaped their futures. A home that had abandoned them long before they abandoned it.

Len sighed, stepping off his bike as Lisa parked hers behind him. His frown was permanent as he took off his helmet, gazing at the home they had attempted to forget. His confident stroll was slower than usual as they approached the old house from the street and Lisa was already on the phone half arguing, half screaming at the pest control they had hired that wasn't there.

It was a tactic, her tactic.

He knew it well, she was procrastinating and being larger than life as she stopped just before the concrete walkway that sat half sunken, cracked, and woven with plant life. The older Snart's face was caught somewhere between neutral and the sneer that desperately wanted out as he shouldered past his sister and took the path to the old and creaking porch. Blue eyes narrowed at the familiar front door, Len steeling himself at the smell that was already wafting through the summer breeze.

One of the front room's windows stood open, board gone and glass shattered. The broken glass stood jagged around the frame and the old screen, that had clearly been slashed, was now flapping angrily in the summer breeze. Len grumbled something under his breath as he looked over the front window. He was sure that he had boarded all the windows when they had left the house. He hoped it was just some squatter who had left food or themselves there to rot, though he couldn't believe someone would be stupid enough to break into the Snart house.

The sneer that had been fighting to escape managed its goal then, blue eyes glaring at the flap of the torn open screen before landing his gaze on the lock that still held the faded front door closed. He shook his head, following the broken concrete path up to the porch steps. He was going to track down and kill whoever had broken in and forced them back here, he promised himself as he took the short couple of steps up to the porch and front door.

The elder of the two could hear Lisa trailing behind him, huffing into her phone as he used the key pad before twisting an unused key in its lock and finally pushing open the front door. Len paused there, staring into the long foyer that was marked by time and littered with trash, the smell stronger now. Len didn't move from the threshold, memories scattering through his mind at the sight of empty bottles as they rolled through the hall at the slight push of air from the open door. Memories of safeguarding little Lisa and the anger he had brought onto himself for it.

“I feel attacked,” Kara groaned, slowly sliding down the couch cushions. “This is no fair.”

Barry laughed openly now. “I still can’t believe you don’t have Edna Mode on your Earth.”

I stopped watching The Flash midway through season four, and stopped watching Supergirl partway through the first season the CW produced. It’s been AWHILE. But this writing is still good, lol, so enjoy! <3

Kara stared, gaping at the television screen before her. Next to her, Barry paused their movie, his amusement written all over his face. “So,” he hummed.

“So,” she repeated. She leaned back, crossing her arms and staring at the screen like it had personally offended her. One look at Barry told her he was barely containing laughter. “I can’t believe you made me watch this.”

“She has good points!” He protested, as he gestured wildly to the screen. He smirked at her. “Come on, you can’t deny that.”

“I feel attacked,” Kara groaned, slowly sliding down the couch cushions. “This is no fair.”

Barry laughed openly now. “I still can’t believe you don’t have Edna Mode on your Earth.”

Kara huffed and pushed herself up again and turned to face him, “First of all, that woman is cruel,” she started, earning a chuckle from Barry. “Second, the cape adds stability! I tried some outfits without it. Trust me, they didn’t work!”

He grinned at her, eyes dancing with amusement. “Oh, really?”

“Yeah, really, ” she defended, glaring at him. It did nothing, and honestly, she herself was fighting a smile. “I crashed, like, multiple times. Couldn’t fly straight without it. So, there!” She turned to look at the tv and jabbed a finger towards it. “HA!”

The speedster next to her nearly doubled over laughing. She rolled her eyes, feeling her lips starting to pull into a reluctant grin. “Oh, shush!”

Barry took a minute to regain control. Even when he did, he had a wide grin across his face. “I’ll have to take your word about the cape thing,” he told her.

“Thank you.” Satisfied, she went to lean back into the couch, but paused when she heard a ding. A pang of disappointment hit her as she took out the small device. It was like a pager, except it worked in a way that let multiverse travellers know when they were needed back on an Earth. And right now, Kara was needed.

Sighing, she stood up. “I’m sorry,” she apologized as she looked down at Barry.

He shook his head. “Don’t worry about it. It just means there’s no way you can stay away now.” He smiled. “You don’t know how the movie ends.”

“True,” she replied, returning a small smile of her own.

She watched as he slowly stood up and instinctively reached out to steady him when he wobbled. He winced slightly. It was small, but she still noticed it. “Sorry,” he murmured.

“Hey, it’s not your fault,” Kara chastised gently. “You know that.”

“Still,” he sighed. The joy and amusement that had been there before had dimmed as his expression fell. “You’re doing a lot, and you’re...needed. I shouldn’t be keeping you from that.”

And now they weren’t talking about her leaving anymore.

“Hey,” she said softly. “It’s not a burden, Barry.  You’re not a burden.” She gently wrapped him up in a hug. After a moment of hesitation, he wrapped an arm around her. Kara tried not to think too much about the absence of the second one.

After a minute, she pulled back and looked up at him. “I’m going to be with you as much I can while you go through this,” she promised. “You’re worth it. Don’t think otherwise.”

He looked down and for a minute, Kara thought he wouldn’t reply. But then he raised his gaze again and she saw the faint smile on his face. It wasn’t a lot, but it was there, and she’d take anything she could get. “Thank you, Kara,” he murmurs.

She went up on her toes and pressed a kiss to his forehead. Reluctantly, she pulled away when her inter-dimensional pager beeped again. Still, she smiled up at him. “I love you,” she whispered.

She watched as his lips twisted, and that faint smile became more visible. Some of the light shone in his eyes again. “I love you, too."

Where It’s Quiet

A Killervibe 5x11 Reaction Fic

Notes: Hi. I’m not happy. Time for angst. 

His fingers were past the point where sticking them in his pockets would make them any warmer. 

There wasn’t anything he could do about that.

 Not anything that wouldn’t require climbing through this building’s infrastructure to create some type of makeshift heating, of which Cisco wasn’t so keen. 

A ventilator, ancient and creaky spat and hummed every so often and the green light of the cryogenic container would flicker, casting over Cisco’s table.

There was so much to read. 

Cisco turned the page and shuddered, though not from the cold. 

Cisco did not like it here. Did not like sitting where Caitlin’s father sat, waiting, planning, spying on her. 

Did not like reading the notes scribbled in blue pen about ice malingering and molecular regeneration with  imperative underlined once then twice. I

t was ironic, maybe. For how slowly he went going through Dr. Snow’s research considering how  desperately he wanted the cure.

Cisco turned another page that was scribbled out and half ripped. He frowned, and tore it out of the binder completely. 

He stood up, his parka rustling as the chair scrapped back against the floor. He brought the paper to the cryogenic container, pushing it against the artificial light.

Caitlin don’t come find me. I’ll kill you. Please stay away. If you find this turn back now. Please go away.

Cisco stumbled back, thrown into a vibe. He blinked and there was Thomas Snow shaking over the very table and this very paper with silent tears streaming down his cheeks.

Cisco approached him, entranced, hearing his laboured breaths and half formed pleas of “Let me go, let me go please. Ice please.”

Cisco gasped then swiped furiously at his eyes.

These notes. This place. What happened to Caitlin. It made bile come up his throat. Cisco felt sick, this made him so sick. He threw the paper angrily. But it was paper, and thus landed gently at his feet.

He missed Caitlin. He missed her pretty hair and her biology rambles that always took him a three second lag to catch up with when she’d forget to breathe in between sentences. He missed the way her eyes crinkled when they thought of something together and shouted it out at the same time. He missed being the one who knew her the best. Who understood her the most.

He wasn’t that. Not anymore.

He was the reason why he was cold and alone in Antarctica. He was the one when Caitlin asked, “Will you breach me there today?” that replied with a stiff “No, thank you. I’d rather be alone.”

He was the one who put the disappointed look on her face. Made her shoulders sag and say, “Oh. That’s okay, I can work on it here. You take care.”

He missed Caitlin, the way she was before he gave her the mind activity dampener, before Frost returned and it was embarrassing. Embarrassing how much he was hurt, how much he’s rocked by both the little and the big changes in her life.

Why was he even here?

Because he was the one who wanted this, he reminded himself. He was the one who wanted the cure. He was the one asking to step away. To kill Vibe to his core. To give up his family for a family.

He tried very hard to ignore the picture of a really young, sweet looking Caitlin in a frame that was stuck frozen to the desk.

He didn’t know what he wanted anymore.

Cisco’s fingers grew numb as he sat down and he closed his eyes.

It was quiet.

A Superhero’s Wife

WestAllen & Supercorp double date fluff!

Summary: Just when Lena thinks she knows all of Kara's secrets, Kara takes her to another dimension for a double date with Barry Allen and Iris West-Allen.

The door to Kara Danvers' apartment opened and Lena Luthor's breath was taken away as she was greeted by her girlfriend in stunning, lavender dress.

Kara was equally impressed with Lena's look tonight. "Wow." She whispered.

Lena heard and smiled. "My thoughts exactly. You look amazing, Kara."

Kara blushed. "Thanks."

"So where is this special date you've been telling me about going to be? You said it was far, so I styled my hair in preparation for a flight."

Kara giggled. "I won't be flying you anywhere tonight."

Lena pouted. She was looking forward to Kara bridal carrying her over the city.

"But don't worry," Kara said, seeing Lena's disappointment. "Where we're going is pretty cool." She took Lena's hand and lead her into the apartment.

Lena raised her brows. "Are we going to your bedroom?"

"Only to get this." Kara said. She held up a metal circle with a shining blue center.

Lena had no idea what it was. She stared questioningly at Kara, who pressed the blue center with her finger. A breach appeared. Having never seen one before, Lena was scared. She took a few steps back.

Kara rubbed Lena's shoulder to comfort her. "It's ok."

"What is that?"

"It's called a breach. It can take us to other dimensions." Kara explained.

Lena blinked. "What?"

Kara held both of Lena's hands and looked into her eyes. "Do you trust me?"

"Of course." Lena answered.

"Then walk with me through the breach. I think you'll like what's on the other side."

Lena nodded. She trusted Kara with her life, but still wasn't sure about this breach thing. They approached the swirling circle and Lena's heart was pounding. Kara squeezed Lena's hands in reassurance that everything would be alright. When they entered the breach, Lena braced herself for whatever strange sensations were caused by going to alternate worlds. To her surprise, she felt nothing.

"We're here!" Kara said with a smile.

Lena looked around and saw they were standing at a waterfront beside the skyline of a normal looking city. It didn't look like National City, but it also didn't look like it was in another dimension. "Did it work?" Lena asked.

Kara nodded. "We are on Earth-1 in Central City. Home of The Flash."

"I understood none of what you just said."

Kara laughed. She thought confused Lena was adorable. A rare sight that Kara was going to make the most of. It's not everyday you get to tell Lena Luthor something she doesn't know. "Are you familiar with the multiverse theory?"

"Yes."

"Well, it's correct. There are an infinite number of parallel universes. In most universes, there is an Earth and the one live on is called Earth-38. This one that we've come to visit is called Earth-1." Kara told Lena.

"Why is this one Earth-1?"

"Because it happens to be at the center of the multiverse."

Lena was still lost. "But, how could every Earth be numbered if there is an infinite amount of them. How could anyone calculate that this Earth is the center of the multiverse if the multiverse is infinite."

"Well, it's theorized and widely accepted that there are infinite Earths, but only 52 of them are in the observable universe, so we just numbered those. There are infinite versions of other planets too. Mars, Jupiter, Kyrpton, Pluto depending on your definition of planet-"

Lena was starting to make sense of the multiverse. "You said that we're in Central City?"

"Yep."

"I don't think I've ever heard of a Central City before."

"That's because there isn't one on our Earth." Kara informed Lena. "And fun fact, this Earth doesn't have a National City or a Metropolis."

Lena was processing the information when two people walked up to her and Kara.

"Kara!" A tall man with wavy brown hair said excitedly.

"It's so good to see you again!" The girl who was with him said.

They both gave Kara a hug.

"I missed you guys." Kara told them.

"We missed you." The girl replied. "I've especially been looking forward to this since I feel like I haven't gotten the chance to really get to know you yet."

"I feel like that too."

Lena felt awkward. These people seemed nice, but they obviously had a lot of background with Kara that Lena knew nothing about. 

Kara was dying to introduce Lena. She blushed and gestured to her beautiful girlfriend. "Guys, this is Lena Luthor. Lena, these are my friends Barry Allen and Iris West-Allen. They live on this Earth."

Barry and Iris both shook Lena's hands.

"It's nice to meet you." Barry said.

"Any friend of Kara's is a friend of mine." Lena replied.

Kara put her arm around Lena and told her, "Barry and Iris are the best. Twice they've helped me fight evil aliens."

"It never ceases to amaze me how many alien threats you manage to encounter." Lena said, making everyone laugh.

Lena noticed that Iris had a picnic basket on her arm. Iris opened it up, took out a red checkered blanket, and spread it own the ground.

"We thought it would be nice to have a picnic." Barry said. 

Kara smiled. "Oh, that sounds great. But, I feel a little overdressed."

"You look awesome!" Iris complimented her. "You too, Lena."

"We hope you like this location. It's special to us because it's where we said our wedding vows." Barry explained.

"It's beautiful." Kara and Lena said at the same time. They both giggled. Kara loved how in sync they always are.

Barry and Iris sat down on the blanket and started unpacking the rest of the picnic basket. Kara and Lena sat down to help. 

Barry licked his lips when he pulled out a tray of brownies. "Mmmm! You didn't tell me you were making brownies?"

"Because, I didn't want you to eat them all before we got here." Iris laughed. She pulled out two more trays of brownies.

Lena's eyes widened. "That's a lot of brownies."

Barry shook his head. "No, it's really not." He said, seriously.

Iris pointed one finger at Barry and one finger at Kara. "Between this speedster and Supergirl, these brownies will be gone in-"

"A Flash?" Kara interjected. 

Barry and Iris laughed. Lena rolled her eyes, "She'll take any opportunity to make a pun."

"See, I knew you'd learn to love puns!" Barry said with a clap of his hands. He was thinking of his and Kara's musical adventure where she wasn't too impressed with his Flash puns.

Watching Barry and Kara be adorkable made Iris feel a sudden camaraderie with Lena. She tilted her head towards Lena and whispered, "I guess we both fell in love with nerds."

"There is something irresistible about about them." Lena added.

"I can hear you." Kara informed Iris and Lena.

"Do you have super hearing too?" Iris asked.

"Yup!" Kara said, popping the p.

Iris' jaw dropped. "Wow, do you have any flaws?"

"She snores." Lena said.

"Iris talks in her sleep." Barry told everyone.

This was news to Iris. She stared at him, curious about what she'd been saying in her sleep but also nervous that it might be embarrassing.

Barry saw the anxiety on Iris' face. "It's mainly unintelligible murmurs mixed with a few recognizable words."

Iris felt relieved. It didn't go unnoticed by the group. Lena smirked and pointed out, "You seem glad to hear that most of your sleep talk is unintelligible. What are you dreaming about?"

Barry thought that was a great question. He knew what he hoped the answer was. "Yeah, Iris, what do you dream about?"

"Different things depending on the night." She answered. It was the truth.

"What about last night?" Barry asked. He wasn't going to let this go.

Iris picked up her drink and raised it to her lips, before taking a sip she whispered, "You."

"Awwwww!" Kara and Lena cooed in unison. Kara even put a hand over her heart.

"I dream about you all the time, even when I'm awake. I have since we were kids." Barry told Iris. "And every moment I spend with you feels like something out of a dream."

Kara and Lena let out an even more dramatic "AWWWWWWW!"

"You're so sweet." Iris said. She kissed Barry and he sighed when she moved her lips away. Iris continued talking, "But, why'd you say that in front of our friends? Now we're that couple. The sickeningly sweet one that gives people cavities just by looking at us."

Barry smiled. "I have always wanted to be that couple!" He put his arms around Iris and kissed her cheek multiple times. She softened, like always, at his touch. Barry rubbed his nose against her neck and closed his eyes. It felt so nice Iris could almost forget where she was and just fall into the peace of cuddling Barry.

But, Lena and Kara's eyes snapped Iris out of it. She gave Barry a quick peck on the lips and then playfully pushed him off.

"Let's be that couple." Kara whined to Lena.

Lena answered her with a kiss. 

"Ok, Lena, you have to tell me which brand of lipstick you use because it's gorgeous!" Iris said.

"And, long lasting." Kara added. "It never rubs off and messes with mine."

"Even better!" 

Barry frowned at Iris. "You don't think Too Faced's Hot Mess looks good on me?"

"Hopeless Romantic is more your shade."

Barry laughed. Then, he felt his pocket vibrating. He pulled out his phone and saw a text from Cisco. Iris also looked at her phone and saw a text from Cisco. Barry and Iris exchanged disappointed looks. 

"I'm sorry guys, but we have to go. There's a robbery on 10th street." Barry said.

"Oh, I'll go with you." Kara offered. "I know you're fast, but it will be even faster if we work together."

"Thanks!"

"Well then, I think a robber is no match for The Flash and Supergirl. So, Lena and I will wait here till you get back." Iris said. She didn't want to go to Star Labs with Barry and leave Lena alone on a foreign Earth.

"Sounds good." Lena agreed. 

"Race ya?" Kara challenged Barry.

The superheros sped off, one on foot, one soaring through the air.

Iris and Lena both sighed.

"There they go." Lena said as she watched Kara fly away.

"Our date nights always get interrupted." Iris lamented. 

"I guess that's the downside of being a superhero's wife."

"Yeah, but there are so many upsides." Iris said. In fact, thinking about the positives made her smirk when one particular benefit came to mind. "Barry can do more with his powers than just run, you know."

Lena almost spit out her drink from laughing so hard. When she caught her breath, she said, "You're lucky. Kara's super strong so it's great for getting into creative positions. But, she did almost break my nose once."

Iris raised a brow. "What position was that?"

"Oh, that was just while kissing." Lena clarified. "Sometimes Kara is a little too excited."

"I know what that's like. When we went on our honeymoon, Barry was so excited he accidentally phased us down three stories of the hotel!"

"Oh my god!"

Iris cringed at the memory. "It was hard to explain to the nice old lady staying in the room we landed in."

"Patience and quick thinking are important for a superhero's wife."

"Do you want to be a superhero's wife anytime soon?" Iris teased.

"Maybe....."

Iris raised her glass to toast. "Then heres to superhero wives. May we be the ones who rescue the rescuers."

"Here! Here!"

The girls clinked their glasses and sipped. 

A moment later, Barry was back at Iris side' and Kara touchdown next to Lena.

"What took you so long?" Lena joked.

a rough kind of place; a good kind of place

A little drabble that delves a bit deeper into the moments before the Pierce sisters fall asleep at the end of the pilot episode. Inspired by this lovely piece by @youngerdrgrey (which I believe was actually the very first BL fic to be posted on the tumblrs!.)

“Anissa…”

The voice was small. Meek. Nothing like the voice that Anissa had come to expect from her baby sister.

“... can I come in?”

Anissa inhaled deeply for what felt like the first time in hours, pulling her upper body up in bed so that her weight rested against her elbows. Her mind was chock full of the events from the past forty-eight hours, thoughts spiraling. So much had happened.

At first Anissa couldn't understand why Jennifer would be shuffling around outside her bedroom door. Wasn't at all like her. Usually Jennifer preferred to be holed up in her own room, flicking between every social media profile known to man on her iPhone and taking last-minute selfies before it was time to wash her makeup off. But shit… the girl had nearly been killed that night.

And Anissa had nearly been killed, too.

Both she and Jennifer had been tested unlike ever before - and having grown up in Freeland, that meant something, you know? - so, yeah, on second thought maybe it actually made perfect sense that Jen would be up whisper-yelling from outside the bedroom door. Maybe she could understand why her little Jen didn’t want to be down on the far end of the hall where her bedroom was located, alone.

“Yeah... Yeah, come in.”

The bedroom door was pushed open quietly and as Jennifer slipped through it with socked feet, a sloppy bun and watery pink eyes, Anissa hoped that her own quick sniffles and sneaky swipes against the moist and puffy skin beneath her eyes would go unnoticed.

“Was just checking on you,” Jennifer said, rounding the bed and trying to act nonchalant as she slid in beside Anissa. The gesture made Anissa chuckle despite herself. It was obvious that Jennifer was coming in search of comfort but if pretending otherwise made her feel better, then maybe it was a big sister’s duty to play along.

“I’m good." Anissa raised an eyebrow. "You good?”

“Psht." Jennifer scoffed. “All good. Just a regular Friday night far as I see it.”

Anissa turned her head towards her sister and the two of them locked eyes, no more than three seconds passing before they were both laughing - deep, rich belly laughs that echoed through Anissa’s bedroom and started to pull down tears that they’d both been forcing themselves to keep at bay.

Anissa was thankful for it - for the chance to have a lighthearted moment with her sister in a safe space, Jen’s cheek against Anissa’s collarbone and Anissa’s arm around Jen’s shoulders. Right then and there in her childhood home, with the night light from when she was little glowing in the corner and both her father and mother holding court downstairs, Anissa allowed herself to feel safe. Safe in her home and safe in the city where she'd lived all her life.

Sure, Freeland could be a rough kind of place at it’s worst. The kind of place where star athletes could be targeted by gang bangers and med students could be arrested just for doing what was right and model fathers could be slammed up against cop car hoods for no fucking reason at all… But it could be a good kind of place, too.

The kind of place where two sisters could grow up happy in a house filled up with good memories from the floor to the rafters… Where there were young ones to educate and good people to stand up for and a hero that sparked lightning to watch over them...

As the two girls’ laughter died, replaced only by the quiet whistling of her father’s teapot downstairs and the faintest sound of a train’s horn in the distance, Anissa gave her sister a kiss on the cheek, rolling her eyes when Jennifer pretended to dodge the advance and settling back into bed. Jennifer settled alongside her, the two girls making themselves comfortable and pulling the comforter up over their heads the way they used to do when Jen was a toddler afraid of her own shadow and Anissa would pacify the girl with stories of their very own impenetrable blanket forcefield and how nothing could get to them as long as they tucked themselves beneath the covers real tight… Both in the past and in the present Anissa was coming to see the same lesson - that she had the power to protect people from the bad.

When Anissa heard Jennifer speak again, it was in a light and airy voice and Anissa knew that the younger girl was just breaths away from falling asleep.

“You don’t have to worry, Nissa,” Jen said said matter of factly. “Me, you… Mama, Daddy… We gon’ always be alright.”

The statement was simple. Straight forward hope. Anissa could feel more tears pressing against the back of her closed eyelids as she inhaled deeply and pressed herself deeper into the soft mattress beside her baby sister.

“That’s right,” Anissa nodded in agreement. There was enough good left in Freeland to make Anissa sure of her sister’s words. So much good left to fight for; and that's exactly what she planned to do. "We gon' always be alright."

As we huddle together, the storm raging outside + nyssara

They’re waiting it out. 

That’s the official verdict, the one Nyssa had snapped to the other members of the League an hour ago. Their gathered team relegated to sitting around a safe house rather than taking out the very high profile targets that they had been sent to the city to take care of.

A slight disappointment as far as Sara was concerned.

But as far as Nyssa seemed to be concerned it was much more than that. 

Sara’s eyes follow her, as she paces across the length of the safe house. The others had made themselves scarce in the way only assassins could once the heir started pacing about. 

“You’re going to wear a hole in the floor.”

This stops Nyssa momentarily, her steps faltering for a moment, as she turns to look at Sara. 

“If my father finds out that we’ve failed-”

“We haven’t failed,” Sara points out.

“Not yet.”

“We won’t,” she insists, because they’re the League and this is Nyssa they never fail. She could have completed this assignment all on her own without any of them. But of course, Nyssa would worry. 

There’s a line there on her forehead, the gathering of stress, and Sara moves forward instinctively abandoning her perch to meet Nyssa in the middle of the safe house, rubbing at the stress lines gathering there. 

When her hand moves from Nyssa’s forehead to her cheek, the other woman leans into the touch and Sara knows she’s got her.

“Babe, I love you, but you have to take a break, the storm’s not going anywhere.”

“I’m aware,” Nyssa says sharply, but her posture does lighten ever so slightly and a moment later she relaxes fully resting her head against Sara’s shoulder. Reaching up to cradle her head is an instinctive motion, pulling her closer, casually intimate in a way they only ever manage to be in moments of privacy.

This isn’t quite that, but Nyssa doesn’t seem to mind, to stressed about getting their mark to be stressed about showing that she has emotions after all. 

Maybe the storm was good for something after all.
