Oogie blew out a short huff of air before he stepped out onto the platform. The speed of the train and the electric chill in the air caused a cool burn against his skin but he only shrugged more into his trench coat to block out the cold. What he had to put up with for a fucking smoke. Wasn't as if he couldn't just take one in his own room but the kid was annoying and he didn't want to spend any more time in the room with him than was necessary. And out here, even with the blasting chill against his hands and his face, it was peaceful. Calm. Secluded.
He reached into one of the large pockets of the coat, producing a pack of cigarettes and a zippo. He popped one out and stuck it between his teeth, holding it there as he brought up the lighter, having to guard the light with his hands as he tried to light it. After a few minutes and several death threats, it lit and he held it to the tip, lighting it up. He took a long drag before lowering the cigarette from his lips.
"Fuck." As he breathed the word the smoke coiled out of his mouth and into the air, quickly being left behind. That was nice. He'd needed this. How long ago had he had a smoke break? One, two days? Long enough.
New York had been a blurr, aside from the fight he'd gotten into the ringmaster. He'd spent most of his nights checking out his old hangouts. Most of his old crew were gone, moved on or dead he didn't know but seeing old faces was nice. Or at least, what he could remember of it after night after night of drinks and hits of whatever they'd found. But being back here, on the move was less chaotic which was boring but a lot less risky than being caught by whatever 5-0 was looking for him.
Oogie leaned back against the train, feeling the rumble of it beneath his shoes and against his back. Everything was quiet. Everything was the way he wanted it.
Until he heard the sound of the car door opening.
