I’m sorry, but the fact that Emmrich doesn’t know the Elvhen word for death (dirth) is absolutely ridiculous.

In Thedas, Elvhen is considered a mostly dead language. Like Latin is in our world.

But most scholars know it, even if it’s not commonly used. Just like Latin, a lot of words come from an Elvhen base.

Hell, I’d even argue that you don’t have to be a scholar to recognize most Latin. Because the language we use today come from it, so unless you’re an idiot, you would recognize basic words in Latin, it would be apart of your muscle memory.

A scholar like Emmrich would know the Elvhen that’s available, like any scholar would know Latin, especially root words like “dirth”.

38, childhood dream career? Have a good day

I wanted to do a lot when I was growing up. Doctor, lawyer, bird, etc.

But I think linguist/translator is the one that really comes to mind for this. Keep in mind that I only speak English, and every time I try to learn a new language I get distracted by another one.

I’ve seriously debated moving in with my French boyfriend (now ex, this was a few years ago,) just to immerse myself in the language. And you know, slow down from American life a little haha

But I speak a tiny bit of French, Spanish, and Latin. I actually spent the most time studying Latin, and while it’s not a spoken language, I was pretty fluent in reading/writing it at one time. Unfortunately if you don’t use it, you lose it 😭
