I made a dealgan

Fiber arts update!

First of all, I finished plying the merino/alpaca blend:

Only took about a year...

it's a cabled 4-ply and somewhere between sport and dk in thickness.

And then!! I got a Dealgan for Christmas!!

(shown here on bits of Corriedale (grey), Coburg Fox and some white mystery stuff that might be finn sheep or eiderwool or something (both white) that I spun on the thing)

Like the top-whorl spindle I got for my birthday, it's by Peter Locke and it's VERY fun to spin with. Not an easy spindle by any means, and it currently wouldn't be the tool I'd turn to if I wanted perfectly even yarn, but there's something delightfully unpretentious about it. Plus, anything that ends with a center-pull ball is an automatic A+ in my book.

Yarn-wise, the Corriedale and mystery stuff are both 2-ply, the Coburg Fox is chainplied (because I lost the inner start of the center-pull ball lmao); the former two are fingering-weight, the latter oscillates between Sport and Worsted because chain-ply doesn't lend itself to even yarn if you don't work very cleanly. All of them were out of a bag of mill-ends from my usual spinning fiber shop; I managed to identify the Corriedale and the Coburg Fox (both are quite distinctive), but the other white stuff I have no clue about.

Finally getting a hang of my dealgan (Scottish-style spindle)! It sucks for plying but works wonderfully for spinning sock-weight yarn
