Now, if he actually cared about the person he’s mating with, then sure — he might be a little awkward, hesitant, maybe a bit nervous at first. But NOT timid and oblivious as to what to do.

Death Note Theory: Near's Androgynous appearance is symbolism for the union of Intelligence + Intellect - aka true intelligence
I wrote this for twitter. But twitter is too ghetto for my deeper theories (lol). So I'll copy/paste it here:
Theory: In the c-kira manga Near (Nate River) looked androgynous because he is a representation of the union of the two halves, intelligence and intuition merging together.
I believe this is commentary on the author's own beliefs: to him intelligence of the highest level is not just the usual cold rational intelligence, or a passive intelligence - but an ACTIVE and INTUITIVE intelligence with the usual rationale and intellect.
In the manga these elements are represented through two different characters: Mello and Near.
Mello was the one half (intuition, passion, feminine) and Near was the other half (cold masculine intellect). And L?
L however is supposed to be one that has both aspects of intellect balanced together. He was able to take a seat back to observe. But when necessary purposely put himself in the drivers seat to get things done (e.g. revealing his face and going on active investigations to gather more information).
This is what Mello and Near lacked, the 'other half' of intelligence.
And this why they (Mello and Near) both had to work together to catch kira. When Near became L he "inherited" Mello's will (his passionate intuitive nature) and as a result became the new L.
This is why Near is purposely made in the newer 'c-kira' manga to look androgynous as possible. It's symbolism for his ability to merge intellect and intelligence - a base requirement to be the "new L"
Light however WAS originally on the level of L while L Lawliet was alive, but Near and Mello was not - which is why we get symbolism like this:
Notice how Light is centered just like L but Near/Mello is on each side? That's because Light was on the level of L but Near/Mello could only do so by teaming up. It's symbolic also of the intellect/intelligence balance L and Light had but Near/Mello lacked (whole intelligence).
More symbolism: Mello is shown with chocolate (food wise reminiscent of valentines day, passion), but near has no food, only toys and objects (symbolic of his rationale leaning mind and the way he sees people). Mello also has the Virgin Mary behind him. More feminine symbolism. Even the colours for Mello is more fiery, but Nears is more 'cool'.
I actually noticed this one ages ago but as many of my theories and ideas it just floats somewhere in my mind for literal months before it surfaces as something readable. 😅

Light’s and L’s relationship is insane. i don’t exactly agree they have romantic chemistry, but i dont exactly disagree they have romantic chemistry…
i used to think Light was aromatic for a long time but, and i know this sounds cliche and annoying, but he genuinely looks at L like he wants to eat him. he acts weird around him sometimes, he gazes at him a LOT, he cant help but be around him and yeah you could argue he feels weird around him because L looks like he just crawled out god knows where but like you cant deny theres some sort of tension.
i think its because of this dynamic they have where they understand each other like no one else and they feel like theyre the only people on earth because theyre both two extremely smart people, both hungry for competition, and they both consider each other as a worthy equal to FINALLY fill that desire for something difficult to challenge. and because theyre both two extremely smart people, they feel like they can understand each other on a subatomic level, like “yeah where both smart and bored” or some shit idk i dont have 200+ iq.
and i think in such a complex and layered dynamic, theres gotta be some sort of romantic feelings in those layers, even though never in a million years would they fathom the idea of them even kissing. but its like in a world full of people that you, a person with around 200 iq, consider absolutely ape brained, suddenly find someone who can understand you just by speaking to you, and has the same void to fill just like you, its like youve found the one other human in a zombie apocalypse whose not infected, like “woah, this person is so special but also my mortal enemy but also hes kinda really hot”.
What i find really, really funny about Death Note, is that the ending was basically set in stone. Whether Light won and killed everyone or not, by that point, Ryuk would've gotten bored again, and wouldve wrote Lights name in his Note, like he does before the gunshot finishes him off, or before he goes to prison.
Light was so deluded, he literally forgor that Ryuk said it was only to keep him entertained. He was gonna glass light the second he got bored.
Light Yagami is an interesting case study on how power degenerates one’s brain and neuroplasticity. A perfect example is his refusal to even conceive of killing L any other way then the deathnote, like is your brain so fried you forgot that most people who commit homicide don’t require a name or face? this fucking moron spent like half the show coming up with the most elaborate keikaku (plan) cause he couldn’t be asked to create one “Shinzo-Abe-Inator” AND HE GETS TO BE A DETECTIVE WHAT A SICK JOKE!?! absolutely repulsive behavior, do better.
L is a fairy. Specifically a changeling. (Spoilers abound)

No parents. He was raised in an orphanage. He could have easily simply spawned in and Watari went: "Oh- a new one."
His biology does not work like a human body. Next points will expand on this.
He loves sugary things, which is an element common in fae stories.
In fact, he ONLY eats sweets. Bro's diet contains 0 meat and 0 vegetables. Only pastries and fruit. Yet, he seems to be getting all his nutrition fine.
He exclusively squats because his posture has a significant impact on his intelligence. This is not how the human body works. There is no evidence of squatting making you any more intelligent, let alone by 45%. (Even if posture and squatting vs sitting has impact on things such as circulation, there wouldn't be a notable impact on blood flow to the brain to the point it has any effect on intelligence.)
He does not gain weight from the ridiculous amount of calories he is eating every day, because he is burning all those calories with thought alone. While thinking does use up calories, it does not burn THAT much. Bro should be obese. While he likely mainly said it to roast Misa and call her an idiot, there is likely merit from the fact he is a twink eating exclusively sugar alone.
Also, male fairies are typically depicted as twinks
All fairies are also commonly depicted as bare foot. L is barefoot like he has never seen a shoe in his life.
L also has trickster elements to his personality, always either twisting the truth or straight-up lying. L does not say an honest thing.
He also has a sense of mischeif as well. VIA Pickpocketing Misa for her phone, making it feel like he is groping her, and proceeding to go: "I will find and catch whoever groped you for this transgression!" When Light tried to call Misa, L made a point to let Misa's phone ring and hold it out before answering…while being barely a yard away from Light.
Also, just…the way L holds things as though he wants as little contact with icky germs as possible.

And, at never any point, he never reveals his name. While he does do that for security reasons and because he is a professional, this is also a common fairy thing because revealing your name to certain species of fae enables them to be able to steal it.
He also has no human sense of morality. He has no qualms against things such as tortue. L can AND WILL commit war crimes if it is to further his goals.
Fairies are not inherently immortal, as well. There are some fae that do die, and it is common in media to depict them as mortal. Even Tinkerbell in Peter Pan is only semi-immortal and can easily die due to a lack of belief. Therefore, L being a victim to a Death Note does not contradict him being fae.
My partner has been reading Death Note lately and I gotta say…
Why has no one ever thought to write someone’s name with the specifications that they die of old age at a certain point far into the future. There’s no rule (to my knowledge, correct me if I’m wrong) preventing this. Like, you can ensure that someone lives a long life by detailing the specifications of their death because the Death Note is capable of doing that.
In addition, where do the specifications of their details of a death stretch to. You can establish a time and method, right? But what else can be added to those specifications. Can the Death Note influence the choices of someone’s life regarding other details? For example, writing (name) will die of old age in (x) years after [details such as marriage, moving locations, jobs, etc.]. Is that possible? How far can the Death Note go?
What I’m trying to boil this down to is, if I got my hands on a Death Note then could I ensure someone’s death to be far in the future with the details of them being married? Could I yaoify someone? Forcefemme them? How far can I go? What are the limits?
Am I original in this idea? Has it been discussed before?
