Women of Science Tarot
It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, but I have some thoughts and women’s history month seems like the time to do it!
I picked this deck up at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, IL. It comes with a guidebook and the car stock has a matte finish, I’d say the weight of it is on the lighter side.
I have very mixed feelings. On the one hand, I adore that I have so many women that I hadn’t even heard of at my fingertips to learn about. I like what they did with the suit names (mostly) The guide book descriptions focus more on the accomplishments of the person featured on the card. But, I feel like the minor arcana got the short end of the stick art-wise. All the women pictured are basically in the same pose and all that really changes is the iconography of their specialty.
The major arcana are diverse and unique, their imagery really tells a story, and it almost feels a little rushed I guess that the whole deck didn’t get the same treatment.
I was SO excited to grab this, but overall I feel like it just didn’t have as much personality as I like in my decks. I’m happy to add it to my collection, but I don’t know that I’ll be reaching to read with it all that often.
