Unexpected gifts

Prompt Expecting: Our characters find out they are expecting a child together Characters: Genesis and Fem!Duke Request: Deinnomosowner

Genesis brushed back the white strands of hair that fell into the eyes of his beloved. For months the two had been going out. It had been some of the greatest days of the SOLDIER’s life, now though he sat with her, holding her hand as they waited for the doctor to return and tell them what was wrong. Duke had been feeling sick many mornings now and he was worried that her decline in health was related to the change in location that she had been adjusting to.

After all Gaia was different then the home upon which Duke had grown up. “Don’t worry I am sure everything is fine.” The poet glanced at her a bit startled by Duke’s sudden proclamation. It didn’t surprise him that she was calmer about this then he was. It seemed to be a theme among the two of them. Genesis was the stronger physically but mentally Duke held an edge on him.

With a smile he leaned towards her and kissed her softly. “I know it will be. I am just . . . anxious is all.” It was the closest he would come to admitting he was worried. It was in this moment that the doctor decided that he would make his presence known. “Commander Rhapsodos? Miss?” Most of the ShinRa employees were still very uncomfortable around outsiders, and my default Duke as well. Genesis looked over. “Yes?” He asked his hand tightening around his love’s.

The doctor smiled, hearing the tension in the Commander’s voice. “I have very good news actually no cause for alarm.” Hoping to ease some of the stress that was clear in the lines of both the crimson couple’s faces he explained farther “Miss Duke, congratulations you are going to have a baby.”

 For a long moment both Duke and Genesis were silent before Duke’s hand tightened around her love’s. They of course lived together, but this was . . . almost sudden. Genesis gave a nod to the doctor. “That is all?” He asked his emotions blanched. The doctor nodded. “Yes it is, she is just suffering from morning sickness. Should I leave you two alone to speak for a moment?” HE asked. Genesis nodded his head with a faint smile. “That would be best.” He said watching the doctor leave.

With a faint click azure eyes turned to the dark ones that he had fallen so deeply in love with. “Duke. . .” He began but she stopped him before continuing. “A baby, Gen. . . we are having a baby.” She said holding his hand tight and smiling faintly though she looked worried. Both Duke and Genesis had suffered through the horrors of a neglected childhood, and though they had talked about having kids before that had always been in a future sense.

Genesis smiled though and sat on the table beside her, drawing her close to him. Sitting his hand on her stomach he gave her a light kiss on the top of the head. “We are.” He whispered before he felt her arms wrap gently around his stomach, head resting against his shoulder. “Do you think we are ready for this?” Duke asked, looking up to make sure that he was truthful in his answer.

Genesis ran his fingers over her hand, feeling the smooth skin under his callous fingers. “No, but then again I don’t think anyone is ever ready for kids.” Placing a finger under her chin he tilted it upwards. “But you and I both want the same things. A good life for any child, that is why I think we are ready as we will ever be.” Duke smiled at that before she closed the space between the two brushing her lips over that of her poet’s. “I think you are right.” She whispered. They were going to be a family. More than that they were going to make sure that their child always knew just how loved they were.

The commander stood up and picked her up. Duke letting out a small gasp as she was suddenly cradled in her loves arms. “We are in this together.” Genesis promised. Duke smiled faintly, trying to stop the heat that ran up her cheeks as the doctor came back in upon hearing her gasp. Getting over the moment  of embarrassment she kissed him. “I know.”
