Tuesday, September 4: Deris, “Let Your Love Fly Free”
Done by Mirrors continued with the hard rock gestures of Come In from the Rain, with the only difference being that Andi Deris ostensibly put out his second solo album as a band project. Of course, the band’s name was “Deris”, so it wasn’t like there was any question about what this was supposed to be. In any event, “Let Your Love Fly Free” was a touch more muted than Deris’ first solo venture, but it was still sprightly and catchy hard rock with a slight pop touch, and the vacationing Helloween frontman retained his likable rasp. The song played like the sort of tune Deris tossed off in his sleep when he wasn’t composing Helloween’s hookier numbers, and that was very likely by design. There wasn’t anything more to “Let Your Love Fly Free” than what it presented, but its low-key charm worked well enough as a breather from Deris’ day job.
