According to Facebook, three years ago I was being painted by my coursemates. I'm not sure how well it worked, considering I can't actually remember the dermatomes of the leg, but it looked pretty good

TIL Dermatomes

Learned about these in virology w.r.t. shingles! Basically, each section of your skin (yes, YOUR skin!) is enervated by (has nerves rooted in) a specific part of the spine. Symptoms in a specific dermatome can thus be indicative of a problem with the corresponding spinal nerve.

In the case of shingles, the virus responsible (VZV, the same as chickenpox) can hide out in your spinal nerves and cause eruptions along the corresponding dermatome, usually the thoracic ones-- T1 - T12, in the diagram above. I really like the concept of being able to directly map skin to spine!
