some more things about my vision of cardassian fauna
the eno'irk was previously called enor-ir but it sounded a bit un-cardassian so i changed it. it’s a feral animal, previously bred for pest control, then beauty shows. once cardassians got bored of them, the species was abandoned. despite not being avians their story is inspired by pigeons.
the kayok is a desert critter that mostly digs and eats whatever it can find. its blue tongue is believed to have medicinal properties. it’s also known for "barking" and "huffing", which is weird for an animal that small.k
the two-tongued snake is just some random extra i added if i'm being honest. i liked the irony of it being called a snake in standard when it clearly has two front arms.
the narawak is from beta canon, but i came up with a "variation" that is blind and guides itself by echolocation, more similar to a bat, but it’s still considered a bird. the wiki was very vague.
the londub is also from beta canon. the white-headed londub is often seen in art and literature as a symbol for tricksters or liars, due to its coloration looking like a "mask" (the common londub is completely black). i also took some liberties picturing its appearance, the wiki merely specified it was a bird and that it sang in the morning, so i thought of mourning doves.
the cardassian dragonfly is a very small and delicate insect that feeds on the pollen of scarce desert flowers. it’s not usually scared of bigger lifeforms, so its presence in poetry and art is used as a metaphor for childhood innocence.
the fake swamp regnar is, well, not a regnar. it is a aquatic animal, contrary to the common regnar found in deserted land. it only resurfaces to hunt and they’re completely blind.
this is probably the ugliest one lol. i came up with the ros’sak as a mirror to the redrat. they’re seen as two sides of the same coin, the ros’sak having no ears with a tail while the redrat has visible ears and no tail. the ros’sak is less hostile but its bite is much more dangerous, like a big parrot’s. they can bite your finger off.
the desert slug is self-explanatory.. i picture them as a last resort when food is scarce.
the rest of the critters were taken from memory beta and i only used the information available there to design them, except for the toj’lath, which had a reference picture.
as a highlight the keyes are mentioned to be pets so i gave them a puppy-like appearence. i also had fun designing the gettle but i misread the wiki and thought they were herd animals 🤓🤓 so that’s the explanation for the ear tag. i imagine scientists would want to keep track of them for preservation purposes anyway, as i also read there is only an area in the planet where they can be found due to poachers.
