I hate it that the Republican MO is to say something so mind bogglingly stupid that you have to wonder if they actually believe it or are just playing it up for attention. Are they legitimately dumb and we're led by morons, or are they just saying it because they know their constituents don't know the truth and they can get away with it anyway? Does the distinction matter? Is an "ironic" belief any better than a genuine one? It's the chicken of the egg; do Republican voters believe it because their leaders tell them to, or do Republican leaders believe it because their voters want them to? Where do the conspiracy theories and lies begin? They just don't care about reality, so how do you combat that? They're not crazy people, they can't all be stupid, they just recognize that they can say and do whatever they want with no consequences, so the sky's the limit! Go big or go home, swing for the fences, no regrets.
