Random thoughts on Nero’s arm: how it changed from 4 to 5

inspiration for this post mostly comes form @ffs-abalisk and this post. Along with my own individual thoughts in his arm. And I will be re-using photos here

his arm is similar in comparison to an Alligator’s in 5. His original arm is just reptilian in general. it’s really more of its own thing to me. I’m not gonna go in to detail but I really like the different designs for 4 and 5 Nero in general and although I prefer his original arm I think the one in 5 is a good development choice seeing as Nero has grown and developed as a person as well and the new arm fits this. It along with his hair represent how much he’s grown as a ‘man’ and a person and has accepted himself by this point in his life.

I saw someone wondering how the transition was for it to go from one to the other, does it shed? Did it just flake off? Well I got some ideas Baby!

I think although his arm resembles an Alligator it is more like a turtles shell when it comes to how it sheds, and this may sound odd but Hear me out!

his arm in 4 looks like it’s younger ya know ment for a baby demon- hybrid thing or as they said in the original post a baby demon larva Glowworm thing. I agree with this and the general idea of this grown ass man still being the equivalent of a baby demon it’s neat idea. . . And kinda funny. Basically the arm and its plating are really hard and thick because it’s ment to protect a baby. It’s armor for a baby so it’s gotta be really tough and thick for the baby demons protection. how I see his arm here is it’s plated/has Scut like pieces, and as it grows it comes further inwards covering the soft vulnerable glowy bits as that happens, it gets bigger in sections at a time and it out-grows the preexisting section and the old layer flakes/peels off. Kinda like a turtle shell. which also means it can possibly get stuck ‘scuts’ if not properly cared for. . . interesting

as this process goes on the layers become less thick and slowly flatten out from the previous armor like state it was at when it first developed. the skin is still very tough again it’s like an Alligator’s. it just becomes more compacted as times goes on until eventually it looks the way it dose in 5.

and as the arm changes I can also see it traveling a bit further up his arm past his elbow this area has a mixture of both ‘softer’ Scales and skin along with more hardened scales as well. Sadly it does not glow up there tho.

Now- I think the under side of his arm is softer and similar to the underbelly of most armored Reptiles it’s still tough skin yes but it’s easier to pierce. This spot also has a different pattern to it which is hard to find pictures of I did however find where someone made a cosplay arm (Ludus Cosplay on instagram)

it’s this kind of overlapping cross pattern similar to how a braid would be drawn. I suspect if you can get yur blade in-between these overlapping areas it’s gonna be a decent place to hit tho extremely hard and not worth the payoff/effort. Is gonna hurt like hell tho. I think as the arm grows it would continue to be a softer area and it’d also start to form glowing spots on the underside and then travel from the underside along the rest of the arm making the ‘Cracked’ look we see in dmc 5. I feel like as this is happening it would also get really sensitive and such.

I also feel like as his arm is transitioning and the plating is flaking off it gets really itchy and he’d start to pick at it. . . this thing would probably be pretty sensitive even tho it’s so armored. due to the glowing it also looks like it'd be pretty warm. this isn’t even touching on the way it reacts to thing like other demons powerful or related (like in Deadly fortune) Oh and the care of this thing and what it’d need!

like keeping it moist! Does it even need to be moisturized in any way? I saw someone suggest coconut oil which yeah, that’d work. Buuut~ I had an idea~ most reptiles Do need a water source and moisture in the air, to help them shed and such. This is a necessity. however we’re comparing regular Reptiles to Demon things From Hell where it’s extremely hot and probably wouldn’t have any water at all. or maybe it does or have some other liquid, I donno Boiling water? Blood pools? I do have a theory tho. seeing as demons absorb Blood weather it be Human or other demons maybe the blood works as a moisturizer. they absorb blood for energy and power— maybe its like a blood bath. . . Literally. When Nero gets blood on himself it absorbs like any other demon but if it gets on his arm it doubles as Demon moisturizer. so as long as Nero is killing demons his arm is essentially self sustaining in that aspect.

tho he probably does need to clean the thing because it looks like it’d trap a lot of dirt and grime. it’s gotta lot of crevices. when people wash crocodiles it’s typically with Warm water and mild soaps with a big brush to scrub it, this could be the same for Nero’s arm.

I feel like him (and Kyrie) would go through a lot of trial and error with this thing. And it’s all very interesting!. We need to discuss his arm and his experience with it pre Dmc 5 more!!!

Side Note: I don’t like the way the hand is in the 5th game, maybe it could still have a bit of glowing in the middle of the palm? And Glowing talons likw his claws before? The hand just looks a bit odd in comparison to the rest of the arm. Don't get me wrong I like both design it’s just hard to believe one developed for the other. (Mainly since it was jist a design choice and they didn’t really think about it) And it just looks a bit odd with how the hand has No Glowing bits on it wall the arm has them all over.

I hope I made sense! This took all day! . . . seriously tho it’s all just a some simple idea I came up with, which was already inspired by others stuff so~
