When I worked at a metaphysical bookstore we sold a LOT of tarot decks. Most people had no idea where to start when it came to picking out their first deck. I would explain the difference between traditional and oracle - and once they decided which of those they wanted to start with - I would encourage them to go with whichever deck they were instinctively attracted to. Which one had art that you just wanted to stare at and explore? Or art that inspires you in some way? To me, so much of tarot is how you feel seeing the card.
