If you’re reading this, it means that I’m dead that you basically know enough of DGM to know who Past!Allen (Pasta) is, but just in case: there is a man, whose name happened to be “Allen” that knew Neah 35 years ago and who volunteered as a host for him.
Information we have:
The first time we saw Pasta was, I think, in chapter 215 when Nea had a flashback about him. In that occasion, we got to know that Pasta didn’t have white hair and that he was older than the Allen we know. The same man was seen in chapter 221, talking about the helix of life.
The name “Allen” appears again in various chapters, even in the novel when Cross asks Red if he was “Allen”. Even the dog was named after an “Allen”, presumably the same Allen that Mana and Nea knew.
So, who is Allen?
1) A bookman, specifically the lost Jr.
This is probably the most popular theory. Pasta shows to have a vast knowledge about technical stuff and he uses a refined vocabulary, which points toward an upper educated person.
2) Mana and Nea’s friend (and Cross’s, likely)
Mana and Nea knew Pasta. In chapter 225 Nea tells Mana that “after all, he found Allen”. Cross was looking for an Allen as well.
3) The current Allen, but deaged.
This theory is very popular, despite not having any real handhold in the narrative. The only hint was that Q&A in volume 26 where Wisely giggles when the others ask how could the 14th have implanted his memories in Allen if he’s only 15.
Even Cross (probably the only one who knows enough weird stuff about magic) states that it’s impossible for Red to be Allen because he’s too young. We don’t know anything about magic in dgm, except that the Earl is at least able to bring souls back from what seems to be the “Helix”. Many characters (namely the Earl, Cross, Road) don’t age, but Cross still thinks it is impossible for Allen to be a 5 years old kid. Nea doesn’t seem to have any idea about this either, when he wakes up.
So if Allen did deaged, there’s still no explanation about how and why it happened.
Anyway, the fact that Nea states that eventually Mana found “Allen” and that it was the same Allen that we know, then it’s self-explanatory that Red/Allen was the exact person they were looking for.
Nea seems to somehow recognize Allen when he looks himself in the mirror in his body, except for the white hair. The only thing he says is that Pasta didn’t have innocence before and that he doesn’t have any immortality ability. Actually, Nea seems rather pissed off that Allen had innocence and refers to an “accident” that happened, but then states that these things happens in a long project.
How Allen deaged, got his Innocence and lost his memory is indeed a mystery. Nea wasn’t expecting Allen to forget about him.
Actually, it seems that no one has any idea about anything. Nea’s plan was different, Cross didn’t knew Allen deaged (and he made a mistake because he was looking for an Allen but Allen didn’t call himself Allen???), Mana didn’t recognize Allen in Red but Mana was already a crazy man with no memories when they met. Even Road was surprised that Allen had the same weapon as the Earl, so I’m not sure that she’s always been aware of who Allen is.
What could have happened in the meantime?
4) The old man hiding at the order
Someone wrote an interesting theory about this.
I love to think that Pasta = Allen, but this theory has so many points that I can’t help to think about it. If this is true, Allen and Pasta aren’t the same person.
This might explain how Pasta and Red look so different (Pasta has light colored, straight hair, while Red has medium to dark colored hair). Even their temperaments don’t match.
I really hope that in the manga Allen will see and recognize his old circus again and have flashbacks of that place (and not only of Mana and Allen the dog, but also everything else) and meeting Cosimo again and that Cosimo doesn’t recognize him at first, because of his new looks, until he meets Allen’s eyes and sees Red.
I know for sure that when Cosimo recognizes Allen he will talk sh*t again and tries to hurt/control Allen again, but then I would like to see Allen taking none of that anymore and beat the sh*t out of Cosimo while filled with rage and Johnny and Kanda (and Link and Tiedoll if they are there) see all of this and be stunned by how angry and bitter Allen used to be about his past and the people who were horrible to him.
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR SO LONG TO MAKE THIS PUN SORRY. Ok let’s get serious.
I think it would be useful for both theories and fanfictions to have a list of Earl related stuff no one understands. These posts are meant to help eveyone to easily access information from the story, without the need to check each volume again. There are many things that should be taken into consideration, if you remember something I’ve missed, please tell me.
Part ONE because I can’t put more than 10 photos in each post.
Same Allen, same
———
From the beginning.
Brief recap: the prophecy
This is something we all kinda know by heart at this point, but since the last chapter was such a plot twist, everything is now to read with different eyes.
One thing I’ve never noticed is that the prophecy states “THIS TIME the world will meet its end at the hands of the earl”. So the first time it wasn’t his fault. What this means is still to understand.
Volume 2
Very very fast mention of that time the destroyer of time, who’s the host for the Noah of Destruction, states he wants to be a destroyer who saves. Destroyception.
Volume 3
Things get messier when Road makes her first appearance. It is indirectly said, in a recap panel, that the Earl’s goal is to bring this world to its end. Anyway, road acts her own way. She meets Allen and gives information about the Noahs, although she’s not supposed to (lero scolds her), and then she leave saying that the next time they meet, it would be according to the Earl’s script. She also says that she’s not “human like Allen”, but a direct descendant of Noah, and that she’s one of the “chosen apostoles”. Road is known for her hate towards human, she states she doesn’t care about this world full of wimps.
Brief recap part two: Road has the ability to move the ark, like the Earl and the 14th. It was said that the 14th gave this skill to a human (volume 9), but we know he did more than that, and he’s currently reincarnated inside Allen. We know the 14th is not supposed to have this power, since he has no Noah memory.
Volume 4
Edit: at the beginning, Lavi says that Noah are a family that belong to the dark side of history, and that they appeared at key points in history on the side of the Earl. Komui had no information about them before he asked the Bookmen. In volume 14 we’ll find out the Order knew not only about the Noah, but about the 14th as well. Clearly, they were keeping this information secret even from Komui.
Then.
“Go deeper in the world in black and white”. There’s nothing that is directly Earl-related here. There’s something about the curse. That skull with a D on their left eye.
I think I’m going to overlook the curse for now, part one is over and I’ve barely covered four volumes. Part two will start with volumes 9-10 I think.
Brief recap part three: we know that in dgm many technologies don’t suit the time the story is set in (there are damn airplanes in vol. 4). Allen and Linalee share dreams of a world in ruin (it looks like the order, destroyed). We might have thought they could foresee the future, but now that we are aware of “another world”, it could be they have memory of that world, before the Pillar. This said, let’s go on.
In case you’ve missed the previous entry, this is a collection of every fishy moment / thing no one understood yet about the Earl (Mana, Neah and everything in between). I’m doing my best to collect everything but in case I forgot something, just tell me. It would be useful to have all the information together.
(Part one here)
Nice symbolism
———
Volumes 9-10
After Allen wakes up CC for the first time, the LVL3 gives him the ark to go to Edo, because “the Noah said so”. Fishy. The Earl will be later pissed off that Allen was there.
It is said that the Noah were born inside the ark, and that head-looking machinery that the Earl uses to create akumas, is the birthplace of Noahs, and that is ONLY now used to make akumas. From, this, and from the fact that akumas evolution has just started (the first level two is the one that killed Kanda and Alma in their previous lives), we can assume that akumas are a relatively new thing. In the same scene, Devit states that it is hilarious that humans and akumas were born in the same place and the earl giggles.
As anticipated in part one, the only ones who are supposed to move the ark are currently the earl and road.
The 14th was “the other one”, who’s now dead. Except he left his power to a human, whose name we now know (it’s Allen lol). I mean, not just his power, but his whole self. He’s now living inside Allen. But at that point of the story we didn’t know yet. Friendly reminder Neah has no Noah memory, so he’s not supposed to reincarnate like the others.
It is interesting that Neah bothered to break the ark before dying.
Volumes 11-12-13-14.
The following volumes feature less relevant information, as they’re duels, for the most. There are some hints about the 14th, but they all pointed at Allen being the actual 14th, and that’s a story we know already.
It could be mentioned that, when Allen evokates the Sword for the first time, Road has a vision of the Earl, maybe a flashback? No one knows. It’s in volume 12 anyway, toward the end.
Another interesting thing is how Tyki VS Allen reached a different ending, compared to Skinn VS Kanda. Kanda killed the human AND the Noah. Allen has a weapon that doesn’t kill the human, but the Noah only. Except that the Noahs become stronger, when triggered by innocence. Fishy. Unless you kill the human, it seems that it is impossibile to kill them. A bit like parasite type. Again, fishy.
Edit: I should have not overlooked the flashback in which Skinn awake as a Noah.
First of all, he had a dream about the end of everything, before turning definitely into a Noah
Second, the Earl states that he’s one of the 13 apostoles God created. This is false, just a volume before we learnt that the Noahs were created by Noah himself inside the ark. Unless the Noah is God (their God?) then there’s something fishy here.
Anyway, let’s go on.
I’ll overlook the whole Piano thing. The score was written with the secret code Mana taught Allen. This is not a mystery anymore. The rest is a build up for the “revelation” that will take place in volume 17. I’ll save this space for the upcoming volumes.
The 14th melody lyrics, just in case:
“Then the boy went to sleep
And one or two embers, alive in the ashes
Flared up in the shape of your beloved face
Thousands of dreams spread over the land
Stars like silver eyes twinkling in the night...
You shining ones fell to Earth
Even though the eons turn many prayers to dust
I will keep praying
Fire slowly burns as the boy is drifting off to sleep
Red embers flame in the ashes of our memories
Breathing in, then out again
There I see the face of my precious boy appearing
And every dream that I had for him is falling
To the ground, to the ground
Within the darkness you’re the one who’s always shining
Born in the night with eyes gray and trembling, yet so bright
Even if every word of my endless praying fell to Earth, not to be heard
Forgotten and turning to dust
I will still pray endlessly for this young boy to one day find love unconditional
And that he may be kissed on his hand”
The Earl was sad when the ark disappeared. We can guess it was because of the love Mana had for Neah.
After the Ark arc.
This is when the story starts to become tricky.
One thing I noticed is that the way the Order refers to exorcists is “sacrificial apostoles”, kinda like the Noahs are the “sacrificial lambs”. I don’t know what it means but it is interesting anyway.
Other three interesting things surfaced in that scene:
- Lvellie knew Cross was linked to the 14th, but Cross didn’t know Lvellie knew about him. This is even stranger because we learnt that Lvellie is part of the third side.
- Lvellie knew about the 14th because an old man came to the order for protection, fearing the Earl might find him.
- Lvellie also knew that the 14th after his death left his will to “cretain humans” (plural), who were people who supported him. One of these people seems to be the old man at the order. The other confirmed ones are Cross and Bookman (yup, Sheryl said that)
Done with part two. Again, if I’m missing something, just tell me.
In case you’ve missed the previous entries, this is a collection of every fishy moment / thing no one understood yet about the Earl (Mana, Neah and everything in between). I’m doing my best to collect everything but in case I forgot something, just tell me. It would be useful to have all the information together.
And yes, the title is a very bad pun.
Allen no chill

Volumes 18-19
There’s just one, big scene that matters. You know which one.
I love these panels, the art is so beautiful.
We have no real clue about what happened. Allen was stabbed by his own sword that is supposed to hurt “evil” only. Except that he’s a Noah. Poor child.
After that mission, he has a dream about a word in ruins, with that scary Pillar in it.
According to Road, the Pillar suddenly appeared and destroyed everything. In this scene, it is talking directly to Allen. The thing that bugs me is that it is known that Neah has no Noah memory. So whose are these memories?
This part is also a mystery. What does the “A•••” means? Someone pointed out it could be “Adam”. Anyway, when Allen is in the wheat field, later in the story, Cross tells him that he could stop fighting and sink in his happy memories with Mana. Kinda like what happens here: when Allen wakes up, Neah is in charge.
In case you’ve missed the previous entries, this is a collection of every fishy moment / thing no one understood yet about the Earl (Mana, Neah and everything in between). I’m doing my best to collect everything but in case I forgot something, just tell me. It would be useful to have all the information together.

What’s with the JoJo outfits
------
Volumes from 20 to 22* covers mainly the Alma ark.
(* Volumes 21 and 22 are actually in part seven. I’ve used too many images here just for this single chapter below)
It was kinda known already that when you trigger a Noah with Innocence, the Noah strengthen. I also pointed out how fishy this is: the holy weapon that’s supposed to defeat evil, actually makes it stronger by triggering the hate Noahs bear for Innocence. So no surprise that the Earl wants an exorcist to fight Allen in order to awake Neah.
The awakening has beginning in volume 14, when Allen sees the score written with Mana’s secret code. It was again triggered when he stabbed himself. For the first time, we saw Neah taking charge.
This time, Neah awoke completely. He looks a damn lot like Tyki.
But BEFORE that, there is another relevant thing.
We see all the Noahs for the very first time.
Adam, the Earl, is the 1st disciple.
All the information here is very confusing to be honest. I’ll try to analyze every single panel since everything is kinda relevant and shady.
Noahs have a “true” name, that their Noah memory remembers (Wisely refers to Noahs as “masters”)
Sheryl asks about the memory, if it’s shared among Noahs from the memory of the one apostle “Noah”, but Wisely says that there wasn’t any “Noah”, but a group of 13 Noahs. Noahs share the memory from the 2nd to the 13th;
After Neah killed them, they all received a memory damage. The only exception seems to be Road, who didn’t reincarnated for +35 years.
Wisely remembers things because he can read people’s mind. All the other Noahs, however, repress their Noah memory because otherwise they would lose theirselves. This is what is happening to Tyki. Road doesn’t seem exempt from this, anyway. She knows more than the others because her memory isn’t damaged, but she’s at risk of being overwhelmed by the Noah as much as the others (see 234).
On a side note, we learn that Road (wisely calls all the Noahs masters) has looked like this for the last 35 years.
Then there’s a recap of the 7000 years ago story, made by the Earl. Whoever held the heart, they were someone the Earl knew.
After the Earl fought the Heart, the remaining 12 apostles created humanity. In volume 9, the Earl tells a kinda different version of this story. He says the Noahs were created inside the ark. From the same machine (the head), “Noah” created humans. So, if we substitute “Noah” with “Noahs” it means that it was the Noahs who created humans in the ark. So, if that’s real, where was the Earl? What has happened between the world end and the creation of the second mankind?
Just imagine a story in which some people awake superpowers and they find out they’re descendants of an ancient clan that has fight 7000 years ago against an unknown entity that, eventually, destroyed the earth and erased mankind. Sounds like a good plot for an average shounen manga, doesn’t it?
Too bad the chosen ones are the villains. Or at least, they seems to be. The “chosen one” trope takes a whole new meaning here. I mean, this could have been Power Rangers if it weren’t for the psychopathic tendencies.
The Earl is tired of fighting. We’ve seen this when he splits. He doesn’t want to carry this war on anymore. But something happens when he ears Neah’s voice. It’s like he goes insane (well, we know he is). After that, the Earl changes completely. I don’t know how to interpret this panel. If it means that is Neah’s existence the cause of the Earl’s madness, or if Neah has some kind of influence on him.
I would have liked to cover all the volumes up to 22 in this part, but it seems that I’m already off of space for images. Too bad. See you in part seven for Neah’s awakening and Apocry.
In case you’ve missed the previous entries, this is a collection of every fishy moment / thing no one understood yet about the Earl (Mana, Neah and everything in between). I’m doing my best to collect everything but in case I forgot something, just tell me. It would be useful to have all the information together.
The Earl is such a nice human tho.
———
I think this post will cover just volumes 16 and 17.
Volume 16
This volume is full of information.
Since someone linked Hebraska to the Pillar, I’ll report something about her too. She’s said to be a killer of her own blood. Then, we learn that the Lvellie family has quickly gained power at the order, but no one as much as Lvellie. Daughters of Lvellie family were offered up as saints to God. No one knows what happened after that, but the Lvellies have become the top officers at the Order to foster “the bloodline of saints”. No one knows what it means, but in (I think) volume 25 discussion room it was kinda confirmed that Heb is a Lvellie.
Brief recap: after the LVL4, we learn that for some unknown reasons the Earl wants to keep the order alive. The Order was created several hundreds years ago when the cube was found by the New World Alliance to prevent the three days of darkness. When LVL4 wakes up, Bookman states that the final form of akumas is still unknown, and in 100 years (bookmen recorded the holy war for 100 years up till now) there are never been a LVL4 before. Even Cross seems shocked about the LVL4.
Anyway, let’s go on.
There’s that scene with the Earl talking about the heart. He said that he attacked the generals so the order would try harder to find it. The Earl mentions akumas evolution as something the Order shouldn’t know about, because if so, then the heart would know it too and Noah’s plan would fail.
He “sense” that the heart is awake and hiding through dummy hearts. There’s a lot to say about these panels, so I’ll just post the pictures.
The earl had no idea Neah could use innocence.
Volume 17
Here we have the famous talk between Allen and Cross.
Little recap: after the order went destroyed by the LVL4, Cross promised Lvellie to tell everything about the 14th, so he could be allowed to talk to Allen once.
Neah implanted his memory in Allen before he died. Cross couldn’t believe it until he saw Allen. After Neah tried to kill the Earl, life for him and Mana has been like hell because the Noahs were after them.
This panel bugs me. Translations differs a little in this. In this one it seems that Allen made a promise with Cross. In another translation, it seems that Neah promised Cross that he would have found Allen on Mana’s side. If you have any promp, please tell me.
Then, Cross says that *when* Allen turns into the 14th, he will kill someone he loves. This is Mana, now we know.
Edit: I forgot that Cross like...dies at the end of this. According to what we learn later in volume 25, it seems that Cross is not dead but under Road’s control. Anyway, Bookmen are afraid that they might face the same ending because they witnessed what happened between Cross and Allen.
