Red Robin #15
Dick Grayson grew 20 new gray hairs every day that he was Batman
ok sorry I just have to yell about this real quick -
Nightwing (Vol. 2) #139 - The Resurrection of Ra's al Ghul, part 6 Dick: "I let you make the choice for yourself...because I knew you'd make the right one."
Dick didn't know shit, lmao!! "Because I knew you'd make the right one" my ass lol.
Let's rewind two minutes shall we:
Dick: "Tim... Listen... There are no easy answers... But you have the right to make the choice for yourself." || Dick (internal narration): "No-win. If I stop him, I don't trust him. If he goes through with it, I shouldn't have trusted him. C'mon, Tim..."
He doesn't know what choice Tim is going to make, whether his grief will overcome him and he'll take the Lazarus water or not, and has in fact been physically fighting Tim this entire issue to stop him by force. But ultimately he knows it's Tim's right to choose for himself, and decides to hope, and have faith in his brother.
And he has that faith rewarded, and reaffirms it afterward, despite the fact that he wasn't sure.
And paralleling that moment of "yes of course I knew you had it":
Red Robin (2009) #12 Dick: "How'd you know? How did you know I'd be there to save you?" || Tim: "You're my brother, Dick. You'll always be there for me."
TIM DIDN'T KNOW SHIIIIIIIIT HGKLJDKFLSD
At least not consciously! Being caught by Dick is certainly not something he planned for, as he seems to be trying to imply.
Again, rewind:
Tim (internal narration): "I did it. I saved the people he loved. I saved everything he worked so hard to build. No compromises. He won't say anything, he never does. But I know. I know that Bruce will be proud of me. Not a bad day." || Tim: (in the midst of pASSING TF OUT) || Dick: (swoops in and catches him)
Tim may not have actually known that Dick would be there. But that catch... A falling Tim being caught by Dick is a motif that occurs over and over and over across the years of their relationship. Why do I feel like there's a part of Tim, faint as he faded out, and much stronger when he woke up, that went, "Oh, it's Dick - of course if it was anyone, I knew it would be Dick"?
After their conflicts and miscommunications in this arc, after Tim sweeping back into town and explaining not a single thing as he races to thwart Ra's, despite Dick's frustrated pleas, after cutting Dick off with a simple, "Batman...trust me," and Dick's responding, "Of course"....
Tim feeling like he knew, even if he didn't know, or plan, or expect. Because that's his brother. And choosing to express that trust, after Dick chose to trust him...
Just. Dick and Tim. Verbally reaffirming their faith in each other, even after in-the-moment doubts. BROTHERS. My emotions.
“dick grayson should be batman after bruce retires!!”
dick grayson would punch you in the face and then kill himself if you told him that
One thing that super frustrates me is like. This idea that Bruce would be completely hopeless dealing with Damian when he comes back from being lost in time / "dead" during the Dick!Bats era.
When akshually, this is him literally five minutes after returning, in Batman & Robin (2009)
That's not even going into pretty much the entirety of Batman #657, where Bruce puts up with Damian behaving absolutely abominably.
This is after even Talia has said that Damian has behavioural issues: "The boy is growing even beyond my control now. He lacks discipline and the guiding hand of a great man.”
It is only after at least five different instances of Damian acting out that Bruce has to act fierce to get him into line because that was the only thing that Damian knew how to respond to at that point in his life.
And it's definitely not even getting into the fact that Dick did not have a good time with Damian in the beginning, either.
The entirety of Batman & Robin (2009) #2 is about Dick and Damian being at odds. (Also notice how Damian talks about Bruce, and how he actively thinks that Dick is a poor facsimile of him.)
Dick does not magically snap out of it and laugh it off. Alfred has to talk Dick off a ledge, first, and remind him that this is a kid who needs help and guidance. And Dick is like "[BIG SIGH] unfortunately you are right"

Dick!Batman about how Damian moves in battle 🐈⬛
Awww, Dick!Bats knows his murder baby well.
[Image Description: Photograph of 3 Panels from Batman&Robin 6: Batman and Robin must die, Part one, showing Dick Grayson as Batman and Commissioner James Gordon in the Batcave. Just having gotten a call about Joker wanting to talk to Robin (Damian Wayne), Dick jumps into the car, followed by Jim.
Dick!Bats: Tell your men to keep him away from the Joker! We're on our way. Damn! Dick!Bats: He could kill him! Jim Gordon: My god. Does that poor kid have any idea what he's dealing with? Dick!Bats: It’s not him. It's the Joker I'm worried about.]
I’ll do whatever it takes (I'lI make a million mistakes)
dick grayson, damian wayne, stephanie brown & haley
Damian hesitates to speak, and Dick sighs again. He opens his mouth to say something else but Damian gets his words out quickly. “Gotham needs Batman,” he declares as if that’s the only explanation. He points at his shoulder. “It would’ve hit your torso, where all the vital organs are.”
31DOD Day 23
Hear me out. So we've all seen the Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic
But Dick Grayson has never been too involved with these events. Some of you may even know who Karai is, and I'm not talking about 2012 Karai who was Splinter's long lost daughter kidnapped by the foot or 2018 Karai who was a sweet grandma. I'm talking about the IDW 2011 comic book Karai.
Imagine this, Dick Grayson as Batman with his Robin the prickly Damian we know and love. Now, we know that Damian's grandfather, Ra's al Ghul, is an immortal leader of an assassin clan that bathes in mountain dew to maintain his flesh or whatever. And then Damian is searching for a nobler way through working with Dick!bats to make up for his past mistakes with the LOA.
Now enter Karai, the granddaughter of Oroku Saki, AKA the Shredder, who in the IDW version was the leader of the Foot Clan in feudal Japan. Shredder was then pickled in some sort of demonic juice until modern day where he was brought back to life so he could take over New York and have sex with his sexy immortal fox girlfriend. Sound familiar?
Here's Karai using her blood to bring back her pickled grandpappy in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Secret History of the Foot Clan #4
Batman (1940) #243
I'm mean look at this loser getting it on in his mountain dew.
Anyway, so Dick is Batman and Damian is Robin and Karai ends up in in their universe somehow. Now Dick is dealing with two grandchildren who were raised to be assassins. I just think it would be real funny.
In Batman Unlimited, Damian ends up taking over the League of an Assassins. Karai ends up taking over the foot clan. I think they would get along in the strangest passive aggressive but also polite way. Then Dick is there being the responsible one keeping them from committing crazy murder. He would probably end up fighting Ra's again which I always enjoy:
Nightwing (1996) #152
I want more of Dick kicking this crusty dudes ass.
I think this would give him a chance to eldest daughter syndrome it up with Leo as well as trauma bond over the fact that there are crazy assassin psychos out there obsessed with controlling their brains.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2011) #29
Lookit my poor baby who can barely recognize his own brother after trying to murder him. Ring any bells with Dick Grayson?
The IDW TMNT comics are pretty darn violent. Not for kids my friends.
