my best friend is also physically disabled, and we share many functional limitations.

as he now has a proper caregiver, he gave me what was left of his no-rinse instant shower sponge/towel things.

I WAS IN DISBELIEF- they work so well and let me be able to clean my body. i cannot shower or bathe, and now with these i can finally clean my body again. i can't get over how happy and excited this has made me i can't express enough just how huge this is for me it's changing my life

i am so happy i cannot describe it, i was just left in shock when i tried them and they worked and are so nice and i can finally clean my body. no rinsing, no scrubbing, no flaring/crashing, no transferring to a bath/shower, and minimal exertion while only taking 1-2 minutes. i can finally be clean again i can have clean skin

can we talk about how big of an accessibility issue "best before" dates on packaging are?

9 times out of 10 they are small, hard to read and just generally unintelligible based on the type of packaging your product is in. those who dont struggle with vision and other accessibility issues struggle to read most of them. why havent they done anything about this?

i dont understand why this isnt more talked about.. i personally struggle a ton when it comes to this and i feel many others kind of brush it off as "oh yeah, thats normal, just take a picture and zoom in or get someone to tell you." but what if people dont have this option?

people can get seriously sick from misreading or just generally not being able to read best before dates. and many people brush it off.

Haven’t talked about this, but I’ve been able to tell since Apple has implemented AI technology with their voice to text program. Drastic change in quality, btw. Same with predictive text. This shit actually used to work, now it is complete fucking garbage.

Look, i’m not even completely against AI. I’m like 88% against it. I understand that they are reasonable applications and purposes for use and implication of large language models and other forms of AI. Which is another thing to keep in mind because not all AI is LLA. Like for example, in the treatment of cancer patients and individualized drugs. The patient nor the team has the time to analyze what could potentially be hundreds of thousands of hours worth of data to create an individualized treatment plan. The increased risk of the cancer metastasizing is too much of a risk in some patience. Using AI then as a tool for analyzation and compilation of large data set with human review is appropriate in these cases. But even then you still have to have human review, you cannot trust that shit to do anything fully accurately. A detail that recently in Pitt that I was really thankful they showed. Or like NASA shit, idk i’m not a space nerd. They wouldn’t let me become an astronaut!

This is only just a slight issue I have(don’t give me wrong. It’s a massive issue, but you’ll see). The in natural ecological destruction that the companies that run the AI’s do. The water consumption, the pollution, the ecological fucking consuming monster that it is. That alone basically throws me off of most AI and its implication.

So I can understand there are certain types of AI and certain scenarios for LLM‘s that could improve the accessibility of voice to text prediction/dictation. The problem is that it failed it fucking sucks Apple, and every other fucking company out there that’s using it cause it’s not just Apple! Within the past two years, I have been able to tell the decrease in accuracy and human prediction of voice to text and text prediction. It’s really fucking bad y’all.

I love that post about "hostile pedestrianism" because I'm physically disabled and drivers Will Not stop to avoid running me over even though I very visibly am walking with a cane. one time i was walking at my normal pace across a crosswalk and a driver made Direct Eye Contact with me and then sped up, going through the crosswalk and missing me by a hair. sorry but not everyone can jump/run/parkour away from your car cause you cant wait five seconds for a disabled person to cross lol

They are not accessible at all to people who have Dyslexia and similar learning difficulties.

Like at least most of the text based captcha have a listen button for people who have problems reading

Like I cannot spell and the few words I can, I have to write out the whole word to spell it. I cannot mentally image where the letters sit in the world without fucking writing it down.

I have litteraly been locked out of ordering my vital medicine because the site randomly decided to need to find the 4th, 8th and 10th character of my word and I got it wrong so got locked out.

I don't ever have a pen and paper on me to do this because, suprise suprise, I cannot write!

Seriously we need to fix this. The internet is already a hostile place for people who struggle with literacy. Let's not make it more hostile.

The number of times I see a very important or informative post and then it openly features ableist slurs & language is very upsetting.

I hesitate to ask OPs to remove them because then it’s sort of derailing, especially when it’s about a group I’m not part of. But it’s also actively harmful to me & other disabled people to leave them in, and is sometimes incredibly triggering.

Please y’all need to educate yourselves on ableist language and their huge affects. Disabled activists can’t be the only ones calling people out every time. Just stop using these words & phrases in your posts. It’s not that hard. All you have to do is look up “ableist language” in google and there is a multitude of posts & blogs that disabled people of so many kinds have written on this subject.

Y’all’ve gotta understand the toll these words and phrases have on so many disabled people. From the outside it may seem trivial but ableist language is directly tied to violence against disabled people.

When you continue to use ableist language, you are actively participating in the system that marginalizes and murders disabled people.

i went to a doctors appointment today, and the building has an accessible enterence by the disabled parking spots. i use this entrance because i use a wheelchair, and the primary entrance requires the use of stairs. the disabled entrance i use has an elevator that i can use to reach the floor where my appointment is.

the receptionist at the bottom floor was very adiment that we had to leave and go use the stairs. i was in front of her, clearly visible, in my wheelchair.

the receptionist still insisted we had to use the stairs. my partner was with me and they verbally said to the receptionist,

"but he can't use the stairs, he's in a wheelchair??"

to which the receptionist STILL tried to force us to use the stairs. she instructed that we must leave, walk around the building up a hill, in the heat and sun. (for context, i have pots and the heat could take me out, as in make me unconscious) (side note, the disabled spots were all taken so we were forced to park farther away too :,/ and yes it was a close call for me but we rushed inside.)

she wanted us to do that and THEN also go up the stairs. :/ the whole time she acted extremely annoyed and upset with us, because we wouldn't just use the stairs, i don't get what she was thinking?? i am physically incapable?

eventually my partner was able to argue enough to get her to allow us to use the elevator. we have used this elevator before, i don't know why this one receptionist was so against me using the accessible enterence?

she then left us after we got to the elevator, and so we got lost (it's a maze of hallways with no people aroujd and all the doors aren't labeled. :,|)

then my partner went to go see the stairs she wanted us to use while i was having my appointment, and ITS A WHOLE ASS FLIGHT OF STAIRS, no elevator, no nothin, not a few steps, a whole ass fuckin flight of stairs, how on earth did she think i could get up those in my wheelchair, why was she so adamant we had to??? why was she so against us using the wheelchair accessible entrance????

i mentioned it to my care team and they said we can call the doctor directly next time, to avoid having to speak to any receptionist at all. cause what do you mean you're insisting a man in a wheelchair has to go up a flight of stairs??? my care team will come down to make sure i'm allowed to use the accessible entrance now :|
