I think shadow would refuse to believe that anything is wrong with him— if he was told a mobility aid would help him he’d deny it for months before even considering it.

What if Shadow has air shoes because if he ran at those speeds with sneakers, it would cause chronic knee pain? And he uses chaos control on days where his knee pain is worse? What I’m saying is I’ve decided Shadow is disabled and his air shoes are mobility aids-

More Shadow disability headcanons cuz yes.

Shadow refused for ages to get any sort of knee brace or compression socks because he was so tied to the idea of being the Ultimate Lifeform that he couldn’t fathom having to have mobility aids. Even after Sonic started wearing them for his own pain and comfort for when he runs, Shadow refused. He even at one point became conflicted about his air shoes as Sonic teased (in a nice way) that they are mobility aids because they make running less strenuous.

It wasn’t until someone (either Rouge, Tails or Amy) asked whether he thinks less of people for using mobility aids and pointed out that they’re just to enhance people’s lives, not as a statement of weakness. They also asked whether he thought less of Maria for using them and at that point it kinda clicked. He began to view them more as an upgrade than a mark of defeat and even became a strong advocate for using them when he realised how much better he felt and could be with them.

Shadow suffers from post exertion malaise due to ME/CFS. His inhibitor rings act as mobility aids that stop him from wiping himself out. If he goes super and/or takes the rings off, he’s unable to do anything for a while after. Sure, his PEM threshold is higher than most people’s, but only because of the combo of the inhibitor rings and having Black Doom’s genetics. He’s disabled by Black Arm/immortality standards.
