In my au, when Starswirl the bearded created the tree of harmony, he was aware if harmony had an embodiment then so must disharmony, each action has its equal opposite reaction and so on.
So he created a form for this chaos to take, a Frankenstein’s monster sort of thing. Project Discord. He intended to raise the physical being to do good with the chaos magic, but after successful creation starswirl was locked in limbo. And Discord was left to his own devices. Choosing mischief and villainy with no one to guide him.
