(The New Teen Titans v.2 #3)
Despite all of our differences, though, we have one very important thing in common.
We were all trained by the best.
(The All-New Batman: The Brave And The Bold #13)
Detective work! Dick reflects back on his training.
Mind you, this scene is actually a lot more bittersweet given that Dick is thinking about this in the context of how Bruce is so overcome by his grief at the death of Jason that he is no longer following his own rules.
“He raised me to think, but he’s no longer thinking. He taught me the importance of justice, but lately he hasn’t been just.”
(Batman #438)
+On another note- please appreciate this panel on the next page which will become a bit ironic a decade later.
This comes from a Titans origin special, and I’m really amused by Marv Wolfman going “Look, you can read about Dick Grayson’s origin elsewhere, let’s fast-forward through this and give the page space to others.”
It was published in September 1988, which was about year before Wolfman would write his very own origin story for Dick in Batman: Year Three, and it was also about a year after Secret Origins #13 had come out. (In which Dick relays his origin to a shirtless, pantless Jericho.) So it wasn’t like Dick was getting neglected on that front or anything.
(New Teen Titans #47)
+Bonus Oath from the cover
"You're not with the Titans now. If you want to be with me, you follow my orders."
(A Lonely Place of Dying)
"Look at 'em smirk. Batman and Robin. The Dynamic Duo. And then it really hits me: the thing those two share... the thing I'll never have..."
(Batman Confidential #16)
"Batman can take care of himself, after all.
He doesn't need me-- he doesn't need anybody. He never did."
(Teen Titans Spotlight #14)
"So does this mean he'll be looking for someone new to be his wingman?"
"I seriously doubt it, sir."
Meanwhile, back at the Batcave, Bruce tells Jason to go through the obstacle course again, and to do it better.
