Chains of intimate physical neglect can bind wives away from husband’s love... Ad for Lysol Brand Disinfectant - 1949.
[Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants.]
Is iodine a bad thing to put in a wound wash?
I once added 1 part iodine to 9 parts water in a mixing bowl and used that in an irrigation syringe for irrigation.
Would i have been better off just using water? (for reference I have a WFR (wilderness first responder) certification with nols )
Iodine damages human cells as well as the bacterial ones (this is the same with pretty much all other disinfectants). This can slow healing and as far as it's been studied doesn't offer that much additional benefit as far as preventing infection. Plus it hurts a lot.
So like 99.9% of the time using plain water is going to give you about the same result as using a disinfectant or water/disinfectant combo. And it's going to be less painful and the wound may heal faster.
Generally we (I teach Wilderness and Remote First Aid for the American Red Cross) say the one exception to this would be a rabid animal bite when there is more than 24 hours to definitive care. Then, if you have disinfectant, they want you to use it, because rabies is 99.9999% fatal and any viruses you can kill in that situation count.
Satire is dead.
