Dr.Talter's actual area of study is biology, or as she prefers to call it "Zoology." Both Bolaire and Wicander should be kept 5000 miles away from this woman until they really properly assess her character and motives. These two would be a gift to any struggling academic with questionable morals, but they fit into her niche field like a glove. Dr.Talter is cute and smart and a little pathetic in an endearing way and I don't trust it lol.

Wicander is the (magic induced) grandson of a Celestial, a being she views as a construct not a person. And Bolaire is proof that the halflings cracked the same code that The Shapers did (both perhaps with the help or knowledge of the Primordials?) to crafting constructs that act as people. If you accept his personhood, they crafted constructs that are people.

So A) The people she views as mere constructs could in fact think, feel, and reproduce and B) Her view of constructs is limited and factually flawed. They can be sentient and sapient beings. Maybe meeting them will force a dramatic shift in her world view, or perhaps she'll simply refuse to see Bolaire and Wicander as people, but instead as incredible, fascinating, rare research opportunities.

(This of course begs the question of whether The Shapers themselves knew that constructs could be sentient and could reproduce, at least via magic. Can they only reproduce via magic? That might be, because why else would The Shapers want or need to take pre existing people and change them?)

Is anyone else SUPER uncomfortable with her calling it Zoology rather than like, Engineering or Bioengineering? Zoology still implies life. If you vivisected a horse in front of me, I'd still look at you funny even if you said it "wasn't a person don't worry about it, the screaming isn't real." That's different than disassembling a car, which is sort of what it feels like she is leaning towards in her thinking. And in this case, the horse looks like a person and talks like a person and is asking you to stop like a person...

Oh don't worry, they aren't a person, they're a construct created by the False Gods. Cool cool cool. It's not eugenics, but it's not not eugenics...

Dr.Talter: "Well, historically, there is some evidence that the creation of these constructs was learned from the primordial partners of the Shapers." 

Occtis: "Aaaah, interesting."

Dr.Talter: "The Shapers never produced mortal offspring. Although some say that it's actually possible that some of their celestials did, which is a scandalous thought. But, however, the original spirits of service to the great Shapers were actually the original djinn and efreet of the primordials. Which we have some indication actually predates the earliest fossilized records, the remains of celestials and those we've been able to find or potentially harvest. But it's a fascinating-

Occtis: Yeah. 

Dr.Talter: "So there are a lot of secrets in how the original celestials were constructed by those, by the Shapers, and a lot of indications that there may have been forces that the Shapers were relying on to be able to make those constructions and this whole fascinating field of study."

Speaking of Celestials and their Construct status and what that means in terms of them being people, Dying of Grief? Refusing to let anyone walk into darkness alone? I don't know, this description of El-Naumri sounds pretty people-y to me...
