A battle eternal; although Erwin is in control, he has to center himself when he sees you in such a lovely array of bindings holding your body against itself. A complete surrender; his mouth waters at the bow of your head, the utter slack of your limbs.

When his black leather glove makes contact with your cheek, you don't even flinch. You seek his warmth.

Day 10: Evergreen | Dust on a Bookshelf

There was a library that I used to go to often. After six years, it changed a lot more than I'd have imagined like it was untouched for decades. The owner had already decided to sell the land for her sake. So, all I could do was go there one last time... Then I could smell the old books again, just like before. Some of old books were almost evergreen. As I opened the front door, all I could see was a dusty, lonely bookshelf. Where had those books vanished? I felt like they were just gone into thin air.

November 2025 Drabble Challenge

Day 10: Evergreen

Fandom: Dragon Age the Veilguard Pairing: f!Rook/Neve Rating: T for this one, overall M, just to be sure Word count: 100 (duh!) Author's note: I'm currently working on a long fic (slow burn) that will tell the story of Asha (my Rook) and Neve. I'm currently working on chapter six and it will be a bit before I'll start posting it. These drabbles are technically happening after that story since it will be snap shots of key moments in their relationship Asha remembers after DAtV (and before the sequel I have ideas for). I don't think there will be any spoilers for the fic ('Rook on the Seventh Rank' will be the title) if you've played the game. I'm not inventing the wheel anew just sharing some new perspective from Asha.

I want to work on these drabbles to help me get to know my Rook better and getting her voice down and sharing some insight into her motivation and reasoning, since the long fic will be mostly (not all of it though) from Neve's PoV. (this author's note is already longer than the drabble LOL)

Author's note 2: Thanks to my wife, who's always supporting me in my writing endeavors and is cheering me on after I ended a IDK five year hiatus? I couldn't do this without you.

Thank you for all the kudos and comments I got on this series so far. After not writing for a really long time this really means so much to me.

Drabble under the cut!

Bellara had invited her to come with her to Arlathan. And only when she stepped through the Eluvian and saw the evergreen trees, breathed in the fresh air, did she notice how tense she really was.

Arlathan could be a blessing or a curse for her; she felt very at home here, but it could also bring back bad memories.

Today was a good day as she felt the tension drift away with every breath she took. She smiled at Bellara for the first time in what felt like days, and Bellara smiled back at her.

"I miss her too."

Living in Alola for all of his life, Gladion had never really considered the concept of evergreen and deciduous trees. Sure, he'd learned about them in school when he still went, and seen the postcards and TV shows. but in alola, all the trees always had leaves unless they were dead, there wasnt a reason to think of the difference.

Travelling the world in search of his father had been the first time he truly realised that trees that werent always green were real. And seeing all the bare branches but knowing the tree was still alive was something surreal.

"So all oaks can be used by witches for their magical properties?"

Hilde turned her head toward Liselotte and smiled. The two women were sitting on a blanket in front of the house, eating grapes and enjoying the Indian summer day under the shade of the tree.

"Yes, they each house a spirit that can be summoned." She paused. "But Eiche is special."

It was Liselotte's turn to look at her.

"Why is that?"

Hilde's eyes sparkled.

"Because their oak is evergreen. That's very potent, steady magic."

Liselotte's eyes widened and she grinned. There was still so much to discover.

The Evergreen trees where samuel first met that biy and his pikachu all thise decades ago were still that, a full canopy of lush, healthy greens. And Ash, too, was still the same. Or well, like the trees, he had grown a bit, become stronger, but he was still Ash.

It was somewhat surreal, really— Samuel had travelled to meet up with Ash in the woods, aiming to do a bit of reasearch with Ash's much younger body to support him in the field— seeing ash now, amongst the trees, neither having changed much whilst Samuel had become so old.
