Wow, what the fuck, this is a really weird experience. I've been stuck on that missing word from my last post since that went up. There's just A Blank Spot, like when you forget a word in a language you actually are fluent in - "it's on the tip of my tongue" kind of feeling. Except there's Nothing There. It's just like
brain: I wonder if we encountered a [redacted word/concept of a weather/landscape combination feature created by and comprised of the way a large body of water affects wind currents above it and vice versa] while Seeking territory? me: yeah, mayb- me: me: run that not-word by me again? brain: a... you know! a [redacted]! me: me: that's thoroughly unhelpful, thanks
I Don't Get Language Noemata, What Is Happening. What Is This. Why Will You Not Give Me The Word.
what would speaking common with a draconic accent sound like, do you think
hrravak's native language is draconic and she didn't learn any common until she was an early teen at minimum so i like to imagine she's got some sort of accent, or some grammatical switch overs. i know draconic has the "stress first and last syllables of a word for emphasis" and i imagine her doing that sometimes, for example (dragons do it often with names so instead of hrr ah VAHK she'd be HRR ah VAHK)
but i'm not familiar enough (and also my brain is mush) with draconic beyond vocabulary via the dictionaries on the wikis and the article from dragon magazine to imagine what an accent from it would be like. so i'm curious what y'all think
i do also imagine her reverting to draconic when she gets upset / riled up enough which is one of my favorite things to see people do hehe
"ixen" is fire in draconic, but i have no idea what "skaeren" or "svelg" mean. i don't even know if they're draconic. hells they might not even be full words given the paper was half eaten. do y'all have any ideas? i'm very curious
Frickin' derivational morphology paradigms
I give up. I wanted to write a fusional language, but instead I'm making Draconic agglutinative/isolating, so that some of its descendant languages can be fusional. It's just too damn hard to write convincing fusional paradigms. Sigh.
Conlanging!
Something you may not know about me: I am a huge language nerd. I am also a huge fantasy nerd! These two passions combine to make me a conlanger, which is a fancy way of saying I make up languages for people in stories to speak.
ATM I'm working on a language for the dragons in one of my worlds. You guys... I am just having the BEST damn time coming up with ways dragon speech would differ from human speech. It is AMAZING. Expect more geekery on this topic soon!
