Chapter 27 of Dark and Bright is going up on AO3 later today... And there’s... actual plot.

It starts with some wholesome morning-after-the-yule-ball smut, but then.. plot.

Hermione adjusted her Gryffindor tie and pulled up the soft grey socks over her knees. Her heart fluttered nervously as she cast a quick tempus: they would be home any minute.

She turned to the stacks behind her, smiling as she pulled a book free. She didn’t think she’d ever get used to the fact that the Manor library was hers.

From outside the library a door slammed, and Theo’s voice echoed down the hallway.

‘What’s she doing in the library, anyway? I thought we were going to Diagon tonight.’

Hermione settled back against a reading desk, smoothing her grey skirt where it fell mid-thigh, and opened the book in front of her. Draco’s voice replied, a little closer, and she heard their footsteps approach.

‘I’m fairly sure the Nott and Malfoy libraries are the only reason Granger’s put up with us for all these years now, sweetheart,’ Draco drawled self-deprecatingly, but Hermione could hear the smile in his voice.

The door to the library burst open, and Hermione heard scuffled footsteps as Theo and Draco stumbled to a halt. She looked up, hiding a smile at the silver and blue eyes that met hers, wide and disbelieving.

‘Do you mind?’ Hermione said, putting on her swottiest voice and peering over the top of her book. ‘The library is for studying. Go back to the Slytherin common room if you want to gossip like first-years.’

Draco recovered first, drawing his wand with a smirk and Transfiguring his and Theo’s clothes into Slytherin-coloured Hogwarts uniforms. Hermione lowered her book, pushing her chest out a little. In unison, Draco and Theo’s gazes dropped to her cleavage, emphasised by the barely-buttoned shirt and loosened tie.

‘Look here, Nott,’ Draco drawled, striding forward and pulling her book away. ‘A little Gryffindor lion, all alone in the stacks.’

‘Can’t have that, can we, Malfoy?’ Theo replied, walking forward more slowly, loosening his own tie as he did. Hermione bit her lip as she looked at them both, already feeling the lust curl through her body. ‘How about we help you with your studying, Granger?’

‘I doubt either of you prats could teach me anything,’ she replied haughtily. Theo laughed, low and sexy, as Draco’s eyes darkened. ‘We’ll be the best teachers you’ve ever had, Granger.’

Hermione loved how much she still wanted them, how much they wanted her, even after a wonderful decade of marriage.

OMG, late ask but I keep seeing this everywhere: what would your draco/hermione, draco/theo/hermione/blaise, and tom/hermione being doing for vday?

Answer is below the cut because this got long fast.

Draco/Hermione (I need to write a Dramione, don’t I?)

Hermione either wakes up alone and confused (but Draco is obviously off somewhere planning some big surprise) OR she wakes up surrounded by flowers he spent all morning charming the thorns off of. Coffee with heart-shaped latte art. A stuffed albino ferret and a collar (that matches Crookshanks’) with a little heart-shaped gold plate/charm that reads ‘Property of Hermione Granger’. More flowers delivered to her office at work. Candy, pastries, and holiday-special tea delivered at tea time. A little note card under her teacup that reads ‘Meet me outside F&Bs when you’re off. Leave early if you can’. Narcissa being the one waiting outside Flourish and Blotts. Narcissa taking Hermione shopping for 2 hours while Draco finishes prepping the flat and getting ready for dinner. Narcissa getting Hermione to buy an outfit to wear that evening, knowing Draco has reservations. Narcissa leading Hermione to Malfoy Manor to get ready and dropping her off outside the restaurant instead of back at her flat. Draco exciting the restaurant -dressed to the nines- and leading Hermione to their table in one of the VIP nooks. Draco letting Hermione enter their flat first hours later, after several glasses of expensive champagne and watching her take in all the flowers, charmed decorations, and valentines he made by hand that are literally everywhere. Draco forgetting how to breathe when he drops down on one knee, waiting for his tipsy girlfriend to turn around, so he can ask her the most important and terrifying question he’s ever wanted to ask anyone. Draco being secretly pleased that it takes her weeks to read all of his valentines he’s strewn and hidden around the flat. Draco watching the light bounce off her ring anytime her left hand is in his line of sight.

The Obnoxious Crew (Theodore Nott/Hermione Granger/Draco Malfoy/Blaise Zabini) (I need to finish the next chapter of this….)

Sex. Cuddles. More sex. Like seriously a ton of cuddles. Draco loves his baes and they love him. Theo being a subtle aloof shit about affection all day, but really he’s hidden gifts around the house. Blaise finds his first valentine in this “Bastardized Spaghetti” hiding place. Draco’s is in the tea tin. He slips Hermione’s into the back pocket of her jeans after a solid appreciative fondle through said jeans. Sex n cuddles. Draco will probably go look for videos of baby Theomione valentine’s days of old in the archives. He will find them. He will work himself up into a puddle of feels and cute overload after the 5th or so video of toddler to grade school aged Theo and Hermione fiercely being each other’s valentine’s every year. He’ll show some to Blaise, who will begrudgingly admit they’re adorable. Valentine’s lunch with Theron, who get’s the all chocolate and funny cards because he knows it’ll annoy Theo. Theo telling everyone he’s made plans 2 hours before they have to leave (after he’s already gotten himself ready) and refusing to tell anyone what they’re doing. Takes them out to the pond Theo and Hermione used to “camp” at. Wine and a 5 course picnic dinner await them on the pond’s shore. When they go home later, they lounge around the pier and the lake at the Flat and finish off the wine before going to bed in a messy heap of limbs and laced fingers.

Tom/Hermione (general, bc I can’t pick a fic to base this off of)

Tom not being 100% sure what Hermione would want like, so he does a little bit of everything. Finds/Buys/Steals a copy of her favorite romance novel and transfigures the bindings to be unique, elegant, and the sort of thing you display on a shelf instead of reading for leisure. Repairs her softback copy of the same book because it’s starting to fall apart, but not enough to take away the evidence of how well loved the book has been. Debates on whether he’ll make her a proper valentine all day. Is shook when she’s made him a valentine, gotten him flowers, chocolates, and a tuffed otter/fox. Loves it. Panics about the rest of his gifts internally. Puts the otter on his desk in their study, takes the flowers to grace his desk at work. When he finds out Hermione went home early feeling unwell, he cancels the rest of his plans, gets chinese take out, wine, and heads home to take care of her. Hermione’s a little queasy, but otherwise assures him she’s fine despite acting noticeably strange. When she throws up twice more before even getting a chance to eat the take out he brought (that spells amazing to her, more so than usual, for whatever reason) she panics when he goes to cast a diagnostic spell on her. She says she already went to the doctor and that she’s fine. Tom’s still suspicious, but let’s it go so they can eat peacefully. Hermione refusing wine makes him more suspicious, but he assumes its because of her stomach bug. Hermione brings him a pink envelope while he gets back from getting them some cheesecake from the bakery down the street. He squints at it, but opens it while noting how jittery she is suddenly. The fuzzy black and white ultrasound photo blocks the words on his valentine’s day card: Happy Valentine’s Day Daddy! Tom feeds Hermione cheesecake, kisses her and her stomach constantly, and says ‘I love you’ twice as much as he might’ve under other circumstances.

Have you read @senlinyu 's Manacled? I would be interested in your take on it! Thank you for updating your All That's Best of Dark and Bright! I literally screamed when I saw an update!

Is there anyone, even tangentially interested in the 'dramione' side of fandom, who hasn't at least peeked at it? I have read it all, and it is as beautifully written as it is... emotionally harrowing, and I mean that as a compliment. So yes, I have indeed read @senlinyu's famous masterpiece!

And I'm so happy to hear you're glad I'm back after an... extended leave of absence!! Chapter 23 almost wrote itself as a 'passage of time' chapter, before things get going again with the Yule Ball and some impending drama... I hope you're keen for more, because I'm really enjoying the prospect of getting back into it, despite a lot of other work going on as well *whimpers*. Let me know if there's something you're hoping to see happen between them, and I'll see if it works with my plans...!
