Dragnet - tongue in cheek tribute to Jack Webb’s classic TV drama

I don't know what movie started this sad trend of remaking television series concepts into 'movie adaptations', but there seemed to be a lot of them in the late 80s/early 90s, and this one was just about as tedious as the rest of them. Dan Aykroyd does a send up of the iron jawed no nonsense Joe Friday from the Jack Webb television series, and I suppose Tom Hanks is merely along for the ride, as he doesn't really add much of comedic or satirical interest throughout. This was a year before his breakout role in 'Big' and he was still known as that 'good looking guy' from 'Busom Buddies' the cross dressing tv sitcom (even though he had been in a mess of forgettable comedies in the previous two summers). Tired humor and the whole thing overstays its welcome by about an hour.
