I kinda have a crush on this girl but I think it's my dad in disguise. I think he's up to his old tricks again. "You can drop the act now, I know you're my dad!"

We strive to be just like people that aren't even themselves and then wonder why we can never seem to achieve it. How can you ever be something they are not? As long as you chase the unachievable you will never advance in their game. You stay exactly where they want you. It’s Time to Drop the Act (Tweet Chat Recap)
We’ve all put up an act in at least one point in our life because sometimes it’s just easier to fit in and avoid conflict; in many cases it’s what you just grow accustomed to doing as you grow up. It’s easy to fall into the pressures of family, community, relationships, school and work. However, putting up a façade can be both physically and mentally harmful.

It's Time to Drop the Act
Inspiring Us Blog Series
“I made the mistake of altering who I really was, conforming to people so that I could fit in with certain groups, and while I was doing all of that I was quieting my true self.”
Meet Beth Thomas Cohen, Publicist, Wife, Mom and Author of "Drop the Act, It’s Exhausting!"
1. Beth, what cause are you passionate about and why?
“there is something liberating about knowing the truths about things.”
Making people feel like it is ok to just be themselves. “Freeing yourself from your so-called put together life” so that you can be the best and most “real” version of you. Too often, people change, alter or conform to be someone who they are not and it is just not necessary. As a result of this act, we often forget who we really are, what we really want in life and everything and everyone around us suffers. I want people to accept people just the way that they are, without making them feel like in order to fit in they have to be different.
I also think that there is something liberating about knowing the truths about things. It’s nice when asked what pregnancy is really like you are not giving them the perfect story wrapped up in a perfect bow; you are giving them what they want to hear, the truth! That it’s amazing and beautiful, but also really hard and not always fun. I made the mistake of altering who I really was, conforming to people so that I could fit in with certain groups, and while I was doing all of that I was quieting my true self. I was in relationships with friends I didn’t truly value. I was in romantic relationships that were exhausting; I learned the hard way. I am hoping “Drop The Act, It’s Exhausting!” will free some people from those feelings and spark important conversations about sex, love, marriage, friendship, judgement, race, etc.
2. How are you involved and what impact do you hope to make?
“We can teach the younger generation that it does not matter how much money you have, where you go to school, what designer you wear that if you are good person -- NONE of that matters in life.”
