So I thought I’d announce that I’ve started publishing the story I’ve made some concept art about over on Wattpad.

It is not perfect. It’s probably nowhere near actually publishable under most circumstances. But I’ve spent a lot of time on this story - a couple years, technically, going through many different versions and rewrites. I’ve learned a TON from it! The version I’m posting is very different from the genuine first draft.

And usually this would be the kind of project that you acknowledge as a learning experience and shelve. Maybe to bring out later, to redo when you’re better, but I found myself stuck. I’d spent so much time and energy on this that every time I tried to start a new project, I just couldn’t get very far. So I’m posting it online largely for myself - to get it out there so I can move on. I hope there will be others who can enjoy it!

I plan to update it once a week. There are only a handful of chapters up right now. Once I finish going through the last bit I’m working on, I might start updating twice a week. And I always welcome constructive criticism, so if that’s something you enjoy, don’t hesitate to leave some feedback over on Wattpad! (Or here, if you don’t have an account - I think you can still read without one there but I’m not sure about commenting).

Summery:

Kieran swears to himself there’s nothing he wouldn’t do to save his family.

After his own attempt to save lives from a magical disease puts him at the mercy of the hated and reclusive Drui, he finds that put to the test. His teacher is under threat of execution for crimes he’d never known about; his best friend and spiritual partner is sealed away in a preemptive measure. Yet there are those among the Drui he doesn’t want to hurt – who don’t deserve the destruction he silently threatens to bring down on them.

And when he starts to question just how far he’s willing to go, he begins to fear the answer.

Solitary Witch

Sometime seeing a solitary witch can be very taxing. I remember when I lived with my parents, by the age of 13, I was practicing with a huge numbered circle/coven. It made everything more interesting. I was the youngest one, so it felt like I had a huge family who was teaching me new things I did not know. They taught me how to look at the world in a new light and at problems in a new way to be solved. When I turned 19 I started my own circle since the last one had began falling part, people moved away and my dear friend who was like my brother passsed away. I started my own circle but many of the people who wanted to be in the circle did not want the traditional witchcraft, not the way we know it, they wanted the Hollywood smoke and mirrors witchcraft. But I will say this, sometimes, being solitary can be very tiring and lonely. Sometimes I wish I could go back the days when celebrating one of the eight Sabbaths was a celebration. Food, dancing, spellwork, celebrating and honoring. Not just ritual and that's it. Hopefully one day I can find another group of people that can be as committed to the craft but is also interested in forming more than just a working circle. Covens and circles are not just for spell working but for helping one another, being there for each other, teaching each either. Where have all the covens disappeared to?

By the third I was ready to quit because I wasn’t finding anything I liked more than his original design, but did the forth to match the other two concepts I did. I ended up liking that forth one the most!

I had specific features in mind for him, but now I’m tied on his skin and hair. I think my favorites are the second and forth.

Revisiting my designs for the story I’m working on. Trying to reenvision everyone! Hard to pin down what art style I want to use for it.

Odel likes more color in her life. The Drui as a whole don’t mind showing skin and she’s pretty comfortable with herself. She also doesn’t really see all the bare skin sexually so if it’s hot or she’s training, she’s not afraid to bare that midsection.

Drui accessorize with a lot of ribbons and large stones/jewelry, I think. Not really into dainty jewelry.
