Het nummer betekende begin 1989 de definitieve doorbraak voor Froger in de Nederlandse muziekwereld. Het lied is ook bekend onder de officieuze titel Een eigen huis, omdat deze woorden steeds terugkomen als begin van het refrein.

🇨🇦 Annabel was written in the late 70s by Boudewijn de Groot and Herman Pieter de Boer. De Groot recorded the song during the sessions that would lead to the album Van een Afstand, but was not satisfied with the end result and decided not to include the song on the album. In 1983, Hans Kusters, manager of Hans de Booij and also music publisher of Boudewijn de Groot, remembered the song and asked De Groot if De Booij could record the unused song.

🇳🇱 Annabel werd eind jaren 70 geschreven door Boudewijn de Groot en Herman Pieter de Boer. De Groot nam het nummer op in tijdens de sessies die zouden leiden tot het album Van een afstand, maar was niet tevreden met het eindresultaat en besloot het nummer niet op het album te plaatsen. In 1983 herinnerde Hans Kusters, manager van Hans de Booij en tevens muziekuitgever van Boudewijn de Groot, zich het nummer en vroeg De Groot of De Booij het ongebruikte nummer mocht opnemen.
