Specialized hauling
A very special high and wide movement pauses in Griffith, Indiana. Couldn't have been that hot though, the crew was uptown at beans when I shot this.

Rondout, Three of Three
My final post on the former Milwaukee Road double-track mainline between Chicago and Milwaukee at Rondout, Illinois.
The third train I saw in a very short amount of time was this Chicago-bound Hiawatha. These trains are configured very much like the ones that run through my home turf in southern Michigan.

Been a while since I went to a decent sized train show
Rondout Recollections by Don Kalkman Via Flickr: A southbound Amtrak Hiawatha zips past the Long West at Rondout as it pulls around the connection track. Pure EJ&E motive power and a clean F40 Cabbage that actually matches the coaches-a sight never again to be witnessed. May 3, 2006
Hartwell's SD38 by Wes Hendrix Via Flickr: The Hartwell road train rumbles south on the railroad's Bowersville to Toccoa, GA main with a handful of cars from the NS interchange in Toccoa.
EJ&E Porter Line / Hobart Indiana by santafetrainman Via Flickr: Around 1978, These young Water street rail-fans are all in their 40s now.....Where did the time go.....Man, I'm old.
EJ&E Baldwin DRS-6-6-1500 501
EJ&E DRS-6-6-1500 501 at Joliet, Illinois on February 13, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in January 1949 as Bessemer & Lake Erie 402 (c/n 73989), one of seven built for the B&LE, this unit (and one other) was purchased in March 1956 by EJ&E. It first worked wearing B&LE paint scheme with EJ&E under the window, it was later painted with orange over black. It was retired in June 1973 and sold to Striegel Equipment Corporation.
