Having just finished reading SJMaas Throne of Glass Series after over a year of working on it I have one thing to say.
I kind of wish Nesta had been in the TOG world rather than in ACOTAR because my girl would get along so much better with everyone in Aelin’s court than she does with the Inner Circle and her own damn mate. Nesta would get along with Aelin, Manon, Eldie, and Lysandra like a house on fire and I cannot stress that enough. Aelin and her court would understand and respect Nesta so much better than Rhys or them could ever hope to. And I just feel like Nesta would thrive in Terresan or Ardalan a lot more than she does in the night court. I know she has the valkyries and Gwyn and Emerie who love her and support her and see her for who she is and isn’t afraid of her but I just feel like the connection Nesta would end up having with Aelin’s court is something that would just run deeper than what she has with the Valkyries and Gwyn and Emerie. I feel like Nesta’s relationship with Aelin would be especially deep because Aelin knows what it’s like to be so deep in your own self loathing all you do is drink and wallow. Aelin also knows what it’s like to loose her human body, to loose that piece of humanity within them and become trapped in a Fae body and I feel like having someone around her who understands that would do more for Nesta’s self confidence and worth than anything that happened in ACOSF.
I may have already said this in another post but speaking of ACOSF and Nesta part of me kind of hopes that Cassian isn’t Nesta’s mate. Now don’t get me wrong I love Cassian to bits and pieces, i’m a cassian girl through and through but I also recognize the fact that Nesta deserves more than Cassian. If it’s one thing that reading the TOG series has shown me it’s that Nesta deserves someone who is more than what Cassian offers her. She deserves a mate who’s not afraid to stand up for her instead of one who’s going to roll over and submit when someone higher up comes for her. She deserves a mate who will see her brokenness and hurt and darkness and walk with her back to the light not shove her along the path demanding she move it or lose it. She deserves someone who sees her and matches her both in power, strength both mental and physical, who can take her barbs and her nasty and give right back because they see through that shit for what it is. A defense mechanism that stems from a shit childhood and an even shittier life. She deserves to be with someone who is going to consistently care and love her for her instead of one who only cares and loves her when she fits into his predetermined mold of how she is supposed to be. She deserves so much more than what the IC and Cassian can offer her.
Do I actually think we’ll get a twist that Cassian and Nesta aren’t actually mates and that the golden string that got mentioned throughout ACOSF was actually a manifestation of a spell ment to trick the two of them into thinking they’re mates by giving them all the physical symptoms of finding a mate in order to hide the lack of mental and emotional symptoms of finding a mate? No we probably won’t and I can accept that fact. But it’s not gonna stop a part of me from hoping it may happen for Nesta’s sake no matter how small the piece may be.
