Everyday I live in fear of the HR fandom getting ever closer to Sitcom Dad!Ilya and Sitcom Mom!Shane being what we are forced to digest as fandom staples
I get very annoyed by some of the posts that portray Ilya as an idiot. He's a giant party boy jock not fucking stupid. He's canonically very witty and clever in a second language and good at his job. 😒 also Shane is his enabler and competitor not his bitch wife. Shane wouldn't make him sleep on the couch, he'd be egging him on.

I've not yet understood the Hayden hate. Because my first reaction when reading TLG was that literally allll the characters are so inconsistent.
This isn't a RR hate post or anything but I genuinely could not take the second book seriously.
There is a lot of forced miscommunication and mean taunts in the first half of the book [re: Shane's 'was Ilya ever not horny?' remark] for the progression of plot
It's surprising that the fandom doesn't see this. I'm just sticking to Jacob's version. Hopefully these inconsistencies don't repeat in S2.
Weirdly, I don't have problems with their miscommunication plotline because I know that we as the audience are the ones with both sides of the story. Shane, and Ilya but mostly Shane, is not being given access to his partner's inner monologues. It's easy to see where he's coming from during scenes like the Christmas fight and Ilya notoriously is horny texting All The Time. Stuff like tone tags would have saved them so much trouble but neither of them would ever use them, because that's not who they are.
But yeah, other than Ilya and Shane very few characters feel real and it's hard to have feelings about them, especially those in Montreal. I even struggle to care about Luca Haas and I only like characters like Troy and Harris because they had their own book where I got to see their internal dialoge and personal growth. But that's normal in the genre of book that HR is.
Rachel Reid didn't set out to make us love or hate Hayden, she set out to write more hockey smut with her favorite dolls and had to give them more plot since this is their second book.

19. Which fic would make the best tv show? What kind of tv show would it be?
Hmmm. First thought was my Teen Wolf dimensional travel/super fusion longfic that I wrote in high school. Not sure it would actually work out but it would be a sci-fi/fantasy mystery since it centers around Theo and Liam trying to figure out why they're having strange and similar dreams which are bleeding out into their actions while they're awake.
More recently, I've not done a ton of multuchapter fics, other than Not the Boston WAGs which would suck as a show since it's a texting fic. I'm turning over in my mind a Hollanov middle school teachers fic, and Abbot Elementary is working out well so maybe it could be that. Also a sci-fi fic where Scott Hunter gets caught up in a plot that's Artemis Fowl and Leverage and Into the Spiderverse mashed up into one. So that could be a good mini series.

9. Do you write in order or do you jump around?
I am a strict in-order writer. When my timeline is jumbled, I still write in the order that you will read it. The sole exception is sometimes I think of a cool line and write it down or later. This is often very annoying because I just eant to write The Cool Bits but means I do normally end up with a complete story.
11. Which fic did you do the most research for?
Hm it might be cheating to say for my fencer Shane fic, because a lot of the fencing/FIE research happened at the same time that I was writing a paper on the culture of gender in professional and amateur fencing for a class. Everything I learned about the Canadian Fencing Federation specifically was for Shane though.
For all of my Ted Lasso stuff I had to do a fair bit of research into how football works plus English geography and cultural norms.

yeah yeah rainbow capitalism is bad and whatever but like. when I was a child, being pro gay was not the popular or lucrative choice. I'm happy that times have changed.
I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.
It was always a thermometer, not a thermostat, and I’m begging people to understand that.
i wanna talk abt my musicial x hockey player au but its so expansive i cant think of a way to make it a coherent post so here’s the basics:
ilya was in a super famous boyband in russia from ages 15-18. he meets shane in regina in 2007 when they’re diverted from their world tour to support the russian team at the world juniors.
he meets shane again in LA at the draft; he’s there to sign his new solo record contract with an american company after leaving the band. shane is drafted first to boston.
shane films the CCM campaign; ilya has booked the rink out after him to film the music video for his first single. the shower scene still happens.
they meet up whenever they’re in the same city, which isn’t often because of ilya’s touring schedule and shane having to travel for games. ilya is like harry styles levels of famous, so pretty much every move he makes is documented by someone somewhere.
shane has big beef with ilya’s team— he thinks they’re way too focused on the money and ilya’s image, and not focused enough on ilya as a person. he gets really sad thinking of how ilyas life has been commercialised while Not delving into how his own life is commercialised <3 he buys a lot of old ilyusha merch on ebay at like 2am when hes missing him
instead of the centaurs almost-crash, shane’s boston plane almost-crashes, and ilya gets his texts and finds out on his way to film a late night show segment. he muscles his way through it and then has a breakdown in the car afterwards (shane watches his live appearance in bed at the hotel, totally fine and very distressed at how distraught ilya seems) and they have a tearful facetime call
harris is ilya’s PR manager and has to deal with the fact that there are pictures of him crying at a dunkin circulating on twitter the same day as the almost-crash (hollanov truthers explode on twitter, stan wars start between sashilyas and hollanovs)
eventually they’re outed because cliff marlow sends a girl a selfie with a picture of shane and ilya making out in the background
while palpatine sucks as a guy, you do have to appreciate how his wardrobe went from esteemed galactic chancellor to backalley goblin overlord after only about 3 seconds of dictatorship

I think Shane Hollander would use his hometown superstar hockey powers to rent out the Ottawa stadium for one night maybe for like one of their anniversaries so he and Ilya could be completely alone and maybe they actually suit up and play 1v1 for awhile (hard and fast of course. like the golden age) and maybe it is actually too cold to fuck on center ice so instead they feel each other up in the actual Sin Bin bc Obviously but Shane stops it from going too far so they go to the locker room bc Shane wants to roleplay the first time in the showers after the commercial except this time he actually gets to do what he really wanted to do and suck Ilya off right there in the middle of the shower and he doesn't have to worry about anyone there but maybe they pretend they will get caught a little bit...
ilya telling shane about irina and how they were best friends and he hung out with her all the time and he was her protector and he would skip school on her bad days to brush her hair and make sure she ate something even if it was just tea and she was an angel and you know shane is calculating how best to gently bring up to his husband that that doesn’t sound like it was very fair to child ilya without ilya reacting like a wild fucking animal
ilya comes back from therapy with galina like three months after this fight (of course it was a fight) and with the same candor as ashley padilla in the mom confession sketch goes i’m only going to say this once and i’m only going to say it if after i do you promise you will not react no talking no faces no nothing and shane’s on the couch reading like uh. what’s going on? and ilya goes what i have to tell you. Is that I think I was treated unfairly. By my mom. and of course shane makes a face and ilya is reacting like a wild fucking animal

look i love ilya putting shane in lingerie as much as the next guy but what we must remember is that canon ilya is fantasizing about shane in fucking old man pajamas, which in my opinion is a much better and funnier option. give me ilya buying shane an expensive pajama set and being like "put in on.... for me ;)" and shane just being so confused
