Ok so I know a lot of people are saying like “why are you surprised/shocked? We basically knew given all the hints and clues” but there’s a good reason to why we’re acting this way, myself included.

It’s the way he revealed it that’s important.

Horikoshi could have just have dabi say that he’s touya in a battle, like most other stories do but the difference here is that EVERYONE reading already basically knew that dabi is touya given all the hints and clues. It wouldn’t have felt good or satisfying and Horikoshi knows that

So what did he do? He focused on the “how he was going to reveal” rather than the “who is he” and the surprise that comes with the reveal.

Dabi as a character is basically the embodiment of hatred toward the hero system and heroes it creates (that’s why he followed Stain and his ideology). He’s literally the outcome of what it does to people. He was abused and traumatized just so his father could finally reach #1 and beat All Might (in ch 290, it’s implied that his once red hair changed to white due to all the trauma and stress he felt, though so far this isn’t exactly confirmed). He was driven mad to the point where he tried to KILL shoto just so endeavor would be happy by become #1. [Edit: after reading the ch he was actually planning on killing shoto later on but you get the message]

And it’s through his televised video where he reveals all this (that’s why he was giggling at the computer they had. He has been planning this). This video is being broadcasted to the ENTIRETY of Japan so everyone can see what endeavor has done and what caused dabi to be the way he is (essentially proving the saying that “villains aren’t born, they’re made”). And while that’s going on he’s dramatically revealing himself to endeavor and shoto on the battlefield hoping to get a reaction out of them.

This revelation, both the on on Tv and in person, honestly felt kind of euphoric in a way at least to me. You have this person who has revealed to be the eldest son of the now #1 tell you how endeavor is actually an abusive and horrible person/father, giving himself as an example.

He is literally breaking the hero society and how people view heroes which was his plan along with his revenge against endeavor. And since we already know of it’s flaws, we feel happy and justified along with dabi (and probably a bunch of other villains) that the public now knows about them. It’s satisfying. We are satisfyed that this has all come to light, even to me who likes endeavor as a complex character but hate him as a person and his personality. We finally get to see dabi get his justified revenge on endeavor.

“it’s always a pleasure, Hawks” 

Hawks exited the flower shop, with a bouquet of flowers in hand. The bouquet help 4 Jasmine’s for “Sweet Love”, 2 Red roses for “love”, 3 red tulips for “Passion”, 1 Lavender rose for “love at first sight” and 5 rosemary for “remembrance”. just about when he was going to take off, the phone in his pocket rang. he lowered his wings and took the phone out, looking at the caller. 

Endeavor

Hawks sighed, before putting on a smile, and answered. 

“what up, Endeavor” Hawks answered causally. 

“Where are you!” Hawks winced and pulled the phone away from his ear at the loud voice on the other side of the phone. 

“Huh, what do you mean?” 

“You where supposed to be at my Agency for a meeting, AN HOUR AGO!!!” Endeavor bellowed, clearly enraged. Hawks made an O shape with his lips. 

“ooh, I know I was forgetting something. Even if I bothered to remember, I still wouldn’t have gone, i’m always busy on this day” he said, looking at the bouquet in his hands.

“What could be so important that you won’t come to a meeting” Still looking at the Bouquet in hand, he smiled. 

“just visiting someone”  

“who is this person” Endeavor demanded. 

“someone I care deeply about” Hawks answered, bringing the flowers to his nose, sniffing the sweet smelling flowers. “well i have to go, so” 

“DON’T YOU DARE HANG-” Endeavor didn't even get to finish his sentence before hawks hung up. He pocketed his phone in his back pocket, and walked inside of Hosu’s hospital. 

“Here once again Hawks?” The lady at the desk asks, a knowing smile on her face, but staring at him with remorseful eyes. 

“you know it” Hawks said, leaning his elbow on the counter, giving her a grin and a wink. she didn't flush red like most girls, only nodded her head towards a hall way. 

“you now what room” hawks grinned at her response, an speed walked towards the hall way. he speedily walked past doctors and nurses, some who sent him friendly smiles, but he was on a mission so he didn't respond. he stopped in front of a door, room 126, and knocked. 

A nurse with goat like horns opened the door and smiled kindly at him, to which he responded with his own kind smile. she stood to the side to let him in. 

“so, how is she today” Hawks asks, voice full of hope. The nurse shrugged a little. 

“same as always, nothing bad and nothing particularly good though either” and hawks shoulder slightly sagged at the unhappy news. The nurse put her hand on his shoulder, trying to comfort him. “have hope, nothing is ever set in stone” and with that the nurse walked out. 

Hawks turned towards the bed, where the person whom he loved laid. Their (h/c) hair was neatly brushed, and her once beautiful (s/c) was paler then usual. an I.V was hooked to her arm, and a Ventrui mask on her face. 

Hawks sat on the chair beside her bed, and grabbed her hand to hold. with the other hand still free, he placed the flowers on the desk that was right next to him. he turned back to her, and started to rub her knuckles with his thump.

“you should wake up soon y/n, so I can tell you all the things that happen for the past 2 years” he smiled at her unresponsive face. “All Might retired you know, that was a shocker” he said, sighing, smile turning into a frown. That’s when he remembered something, face turned bright once again. “you know that flower shop you used to work at, well Mr’s Arzuaga has been giving me free flowers to give to you, isn’t that great” he smiled at her and squeezed her hand. 

Even though hawks was pretending to be happy, the quilt was eating him alive, each and everyday. while he though this, tears started to build up in his eyes. he dipped his head down, putting his forehead against her hand. 

“i’m so sorry that I couldn’t save you.” he whispered, tears now streaming down his face. “if only I hadn’t decided to let the other heroes deal with that villain. If I had known you were down there, I wouldn't have hesitated to save you.” he chuckle dryly, no humor in it. “that makes me sound like a selfish bastard doesn’t it. If you actually heard me say that, you would've head me in the head with a book” he laughed slightly again, remembering all the time you had hit him in the head with those heavy books you always read. 

More tears started to pour out of his eyes. he lightly pressed his lips to your hand, tears dripping on the skin. 

“please wake up, so I can tell you how I feel” he pressed another kiss to your hand. “please wake up, darling”
