Castiel and Dean Winchester
Castiel started on the show establishing himself as the character who would see the Truth within Dean and help Dean see the Truth within himself, it’s all been the same long drawn out story since 4x01.
Now, a decade later, the things Cas said to Dean in this love confession are all things Dean has to address and resolve within himself before the end of the show, before he can let himself be happy.
You see yourself the way our enemies see you. You are an enemy to yourself, you are self destructive, you don’t love yourself, you must learn to do so.
You’re destructive and you’re angry, and you’re broken. You are this only due to things outside your control. That’s ok! We can fix it, it’s not your fault!
You’re daddy’s blunt instrument. You are not your father, you can choose to be your own self and let all this baggage go.
You think that hate and anger, that’s drives you. That’s who you are. It’s not! And it isn’t!
And everyone who knows you sees it. This is for the audience - WE are everyone. WE know this, WE see this. And if you haven’t you’ve missed the entire point of Dean’s story so we are spelling it out for you.
Everything you’ve ever done, the good and bad, you’ve done for love. Again, Dean isn’t the villain, he’s the hero. Get with the program.
You raised your little brother for love. We have addressed this continuously but even more so just in the few last episodes, this is a continued theme and shall have closure. Dean needs to close this himself, to allow Sam to be his own man and let them be their own people without this feeling of responsibility over him for Sam.
You fought for this whole world for love. Again, Dean needs to let the weight of the world go from his shoulders. He doesn’t deserve the burden, he has done his bit, he deserves peace and a reward.
That is who you are! You’re the most caring man on Earth! You are the most selfless, loving human being I will ever know. We been knew ;)
Castiel’s love confession is all about Dean, because Castiel was first introduced to show us these things about Dean, Dean who we had been watching for 4 years and had already fallen in love with ourselves. Now Dean has to take all these elements and address them himself, to allow HIMSELF to be happy, to eventually allow himself to think that he deserves to be loved, he is allowed to have this love from Castiel and he, in return, can be free to love Castiel regardless of any reasons why he used to think he shouldn’t, and that they deserve to be happy together.
They can only get there if Dean addresses these issues Castiel raised since 4x01 and now so spectacularly just 2 episodes before the finale, before going to the Empty where Dean will have to rescue him as a reverse mirror of Castiel rescuing him from hell in 4x01.
This will happen I’m sure but Dean first had to work on all this within himself, the things Castiel raised in order for him to do so, to them get his happy ending.
