Episode 218: Megure's Sealed Secret (Part 2)

Megure’s wife was a delinquent in the past. She despised the police and insisted on being a decoy. That’s his sealed secret. Anyway, Sonoko has to go to the car to put something away, so she borrows Mouri’s keys, and due to a bad driver parking too close to the passenger side, she has to enter on the driver’s side. This turns out to be deadly because she is then followed by the psycho-battered-baseball-bat-bearing-platform-boot-bludgeoner, whose son was hit by a car and died because the woman was wearing the wrong kind of footwear for driving, so braking took longer. This causes him to chase Sonoko all over the department store in the dark, smashing things. Sato thinks that the smashing sound is from a fish tank in a pet store, but Megure knows better. He knows that it’s Go stones. He arrives just in time to be hit in the head, saving Sonoko, but reopening his old wound that he hides beneath his hat, from when his wife was a delinquent. The culprit, who was the security guard at the department store, cries glow-in-the-dark glue tears when he’s told that Sonoko is just a high schooler, and not a “platform boot-wearing demon.”

episode 218 - 222

so a lot happened these last couple of chapters,, here's a little summary and analysis

okay, starting off with 218 where blyke speaks to the headmaster about the amps, what I'm noticing is vaughn seems more concerned about the authorities, or at least that's been a running theme following rei and john and seraphina

I think vaughn is actually happy to see students making a change in society through vigilantism but needs to keep the authorities off his tail

imagine he's been planning a superhero army all along-

it looks like john succeeded in causing the safe house to fail though

at least we got some arlo redemption :')

aaand arlo has come to terms with the fact that the authorities and EMBER are connected, or at least won't deny it anymore

from this point forward though, it'll be interesting to see whether or not arlo has any allegiance to the authorities, because I feel like he would still feel loyalty to them since that's all her's know for so long

we've gotten some confirmation of the fact that college and universities do exist in unOrdinary

however,, we do get to see seraphina remember how important john is to her and she knows that she wants to help him so we can expect a john-sera faceoff with her abilities back

I also think leilah has to win back seraphina's trust, which is pretty fair since leilah is partially responsible for he ability loss in the first place and also, I dunno, walking out on her in an abusive household

I know I said this already but seeing isen say that to cecile because he knows better than anyone else why she wanted arlo gone in the first place really hit home

I think cecile was just sto focused on getting arlo out, thinking she was gonna get freedom, she didn't realize that she was still losing what she'd worked for

they're both like, emotionally confused newspaper nerds who haven't realized that they're in love omfg

that's exactly how john sees her because he's so blindsided by all the bad stuff the royals had done

I think he's paricularly upset about how people were always ruthless and abusive, but because he climbed the ranks in an unorthodox way, everyone is suddenly acting like a saint

fair point, he feels like he's being unnecessarily villified but he is doing the opposite of what he wanted to do so there's that

possible safe house field trip in the future?? maybe has to do with running into EMBER??

his frustrations and anger at the royals are really just his frustrations and anger with himself, especially since he never resolved what happened with claire

I think john is aware that he's relapsed and doing everything he did wrong again, but doesn't want to believe it because he has too much hatred towards those who abused him

I really love the lighter words behind john's darker words in his thoughts because it really highlights how everything he feels, all that anger, is towards himself for messing up again and because he can't forgive himself

he can't forgive or help the people who hurt him (hence why he calls them garbage) because he can't forgive himself for hurting those who were close to him (claire and adrion)
