Aside from Blackfire Phoenix, who else will gladly be child-free?

I assume you’re talking about the Auraverse so I’ll answer for that! There are a number of characters who I don’t have any children planned for because it’s not relevant to their story, but for some I’m on the fence about whether they might decide to have children later on (Indigo Sprint? Nimble Nimbostraus? Fluttershy’s kids?)

A few characters who I know will definitely not have children ever are as follows:

Brazen Plumage and Enchanting Show, a proud childree queerplatonic pair!

Cheddar Changa, who respects children as much as anyone else but doesn’t want one interfering with their career

Erudite Spell, who also has lofty goals that have no place for a messy little foal (also he can’t get bitches)

Sour Peach, who has the whole world to see and doesn’t want to settle down in one place

Mountain Peak, who sees no need for a spouse and would rather take care of his farm and little niblings

Brackish, for whom child support would be a nightmare

Summer Beauty, who’s having a lot of relationship issues but wouldn’t want to deal with a foal even if she had a chance at having one

Peach Pit…not happily childfree, but she’s accepted her circumstances and is happy to dote on other people’s little ones

🍧 SHAVED ICE - do they still have any objects from their childhood? what significance does it have to them? what would their reaction be if they lost it?

Yes, Erudite keeps a lot of stuff from his childhood! Of course he has all of his books and writings from when he was a budding spellcaster, including a whole filing cabinet full of his correspondences with Starswirl the Bearded. All stuff he would want included in a museum exhibit about him if his legacy should endure that long. His mommies and dear teacher assure him that it will. Plus it's motivation for him to keep going for bigger and better so he can add to that collection.

Beyond that, though, hidden in the back of a closet is a box of comic books, costumes, and toys from before he was Starswirl's student. Back when he dreamt not of being a spellcaster but of being a superhero flying around and saving the day with his buddy by his side...who he doesn't see much nowadays. Eru would never admit how much he misses those days, how much he thinks about the contents of that box even though he tries not to look through it too often. It may just be kiddie stuff to most, but losing those mementoes would be just as devastating as losing his library of spells, if not more. You could technically replace those things but you couldn't replace the hoofprints that touched them.

Who's the killer?

YES I’m so glad you asked! I had to do some more research into slasher tropes for this. One trope that a lot of slashers have in common is having a traumatic backstory of some kind, so I made a short list of some of my characters who have suffered the most and settled on

Iolite!

In this AU, the accidental curse she cast on Summer had an extra side effect where the dark magic spread to Iolite’s own mind and heart, subsequently corrupting her. Now she’s out to take revenge on others’ hearts after her own was broken and betrayed, which brings her to the group of protagonists that lead this story.

Brackish and Taffy both have a history of being careless with love, both romantic and platonic, which would remind Iolite of what Summer did to her. But on the flip side, even loving, stable relationships trigger her. She couldn’t bear to see Rainier speak of his lover so adoringly and faithfully, thinking of what she didn’t have. She was about to take out one half of the resident couple, YngSidian, before Obbi’s thoughtless missteps did the job for her. She took out Polly to make Yng suffer more, because not even platonic love is safe around her. Plus, to Iolite, Yng and Polly were both “raising children from the ashes of what was once real love” (having stepchildren from their partners’ previous relationships) which she couldn’t let stand. Of course, ignoring that neither of those previous unions were “real love” at all, but Iolite isn’t thinking rationally.

Erudite doesn’t have a love life so he was killed for being a little bit annoying and reminding her of Crash. And queerbaiting /JOKE

What became of Summer Beauty, you might ask? She and Iolite are “back together” and “married,” which would seem like everything that canon Summer would have wanted. But this Summer is imprisoned underground in the crystal caves, hidden from the world as scars keep growing on her body, with Iolite visiting her to vent and rant at her about her evil plans. And when Iolite is finally defeated, Summer is transformed into a lifeless crystal statue, all part of an extra curse Iolite cast to make sure that Summer can’t live without her.

In addition to these victims, Iolite has also taken down the entire Crystal Family and rules the Empire in their place. And when she’s eventually defeated, with nobody else to step up, Yngvlid takes over and attempts to restore the kingdom with help from her Yakyakistan connections. She becomes known as a warrior queen of sorts, but she’s hiding her own scars from her battle with the villain.

which auraverse characters are the most likely to die in the horror genre?

In all seriousness, I did do a little research into tropes again, and found that the most likely characters to die include:

Comic relief

Dumb/asshole jock

Horny girl

Nerd

Final Girl’s best friend

Final Girl’s love interest

If we’re talking about the universe where Yngvlid is the Final Girl, then Obsidian is definitely going bye bye. Probably Polly too since he’s her closest friend. Sorry Yngy I love you

Obsidian is stupid in a funny way though so I feel like she would die even if Yngvlid weren’t the protagonist. As @frostcorpsclub said: “The killer doesn't even kill Obbi on purpose she accidentally falls into their weapon while cry running”

Rainier would also be very likely to die. I had somewhat of a hard time with the comic relief category because every funny character I write gets an angst arc; nobody gets to be pure comic relief. Still he’s funny enough to be the star of a lot of my memes so into the jaws of the monster you go Rainy Boy

As the Auraverse’s resident dumb asshole jock, Brackish is an EASY target for a killer. Good riddance. I also realized this means Red Cedar loses both of her boy toys

I have at least 4 nerdy characters, but I’m going with Erudite Spell for this category because I know my audience wants to see him suffer /hj Something about his attitude just seems to fit the vibe I’m imagining for a nerd in a horror movie as well

Blue Velvet’s whole arc is about her being a horny girl so she’s a possibility, but I also think Saltwater Taffy fits that description and would be a funnier and more gratifying death for horror fans to watch

Either way I’m not doing the “asshole jock and horny girl hook up” trope for obvious reasons, I’ll just say she finds someone else to hook up with and subvert expectations a little

At this rate y’all are going to make me develop a full on Auraverse horror au lmao, maybe if I have it fleshed out enough I’ll doodle it for you guys but no promises 🥰

“What in Equestria are you doing!?”

Prophecy and Enchanting Show were stricken with horror as they gazed upon the monstrosity before them. It was the stuff of their worst nightmares, yet they couldn’t look away. Their brother Erudite Spell had made a culinary disaster, the Frankenpony’s monster of food: a latke sandwiched between two sufganiyot, and coated with maple syrup.

Even worse, this was what he ate every single Hanukkah without fail, and unfortunately would for years to come.

“I’m making a masterpiece is what I’m doing!”

He retorted snootily, inspecting his “sandwich” with the intensity of a highly experienced scientist. Looking at it from every angle, sniffing it deeply, squishing it lightly for texture, he finally concluded,

“Needs more syrup.”

Eru proceeded to pour the giant jug of maple syrup over his creation, the satisfaction upon his visage only growing even as the syrup spread out to cover the whole plate.

“Oy vey, Eru! That’s disgusting!”

Prophecy cried out, throwing up in her mouth a little as she witnessed this abomination.

“You’re going to get a blood clot from one bite!”

“Frankly, I don’t even care if our creator herself gave you a vision, no blood clot is getting in the way of my latkes.”

“If you can even call that a latke anymore!”

Chant countered him.

“That’s way too much syrup!”

“Speak for yourself, oh lover of hot sauce.”

The young mare was so distracted by her brother’s creation that she forgot she was still pouring hot sauce on her latkes. But in comparison, even her fiery hot latkes were like matzah compared to whatever Eru had going on.

“And for your information, this is just enough syrup!”

The sisters would be less terrified by the return of Tirek than by what Eru did next. Gripping his sandwich in his magical grasp, he smeared it across the syrup-filled plate until it was thickly coated with syrup. And then he bit into it with sick, sick satisfaction.

“Ew ew ew!”

Both girls couldn’t take it anymore, they took their plates so they could eat their latkes elsewhere…if they could stomach them after being subjected to this. They would both be having nightmares about it for weeks.

“What? It’s good!”

Eru called after them, but it was no use.

The menace of the Hanukkah party had struck once again.

Nouveau Riche: I established in this scene that she has a history of growing up in the foster care system; her most traumatic memory would definitely be from those days. However, I made the choice as the writer to not reveal any further details about this time in Nou’s life because it is her private business.

Triple Threat: See “Ward”

Swift Valor: As an EMT, Swift has seen some pretty intense medical emergencies, including a few deaths. I think either the first death or the goriest death under his care would be his most traumatic memory. He went into this job knowing that death would happen and understands intellectually that, despite his best efforts, some of it is out of his hooves. But that doesn’t mean it can’t wear on him. Or perhaps the most traumatic death he witnessed was the most avoidable one, not because of anything he neglected but maybe from a coworker’s neglect or outside circumstances of the accident that just didn’t need to happen. I can’t say for sure which incident was the worst for Swift but regardless, he has access to good therapy and remains devoted to, and efficient in, the work he does.

Erudite Spell: I don’t think he really has trauma, at least not on the same level as the others. He’s got a lot of good things going for him in his life. I’d say his most unpleasant memories are related to Swift drifting away during their tween years and how hurtful that initial drifting apart was. I have some more specific ideas for this but you’ll have to wait for the arc to see it!

Aurora Borealis: Somewhat similar to Swift, she has a job where witnessing heavy stuff is kind of part of the routine (as a soldier). It would be unrealistic to say she’s experienced NO trauma, both being in the military and eventually becoming the queen of her entire country. However, her arc will be much more about the interpersonal issues she deals with rather than any violence she witnesses; what keeps her up at night—as far as my storytelling is concerned—is worry over making the wrong choices in her political and personal lives.
