Despite Egypt's supposed "geographic isolation," cultural communications with the Levant are traceable from Predynastic times ... [One] Semitic spell (no. 27) is given the Egyptian label "Another incantation against the strangulation-disease (ḥmktu) in the language of foreigners." Though fragmentary, the spell invokes the Egyptian Amun as rabunna, "our lord," in company with Ištar-ummi, "my mother Ishtar." Ishtar reappears in the damaged remains of the following spell (28) together with Eshmun, the Phoenician god of healing. The incantation is to be recited "over red ochre and urine; placed upon it."
