as  the  minutes  approach  midnight,  theodora  is  more  than  happy  to  see  what  the  universe  wants  her  to  do.  life  had  been  so  confusing  lately,  and  she  refused  to  go  into  the  new  year  angry.  surely  her  path  would  be  clear  to  her  soon.  she  stops,  closes  her  eyes,  and  takes  a  deep  breath.  when  she  reopens  them,  they  land  on  none  other  than  NATE  FLETCHER.  relief  floods  her  body  as  she  heads  his  direction,  wrapping  her  arms  around  him  the  second  she  gets  close  enough.  “oh  my  god  !!”  she  squeals,  pulling  away  and  taking  his  hands  in  hers.  “me  finding  you  just  a  couple  minutes  before  midnight  …”  she  leans  in.  “do  you  know  what  that  means  ?!”  a  beat,  but  not  one  long  enough  for  him  to  answer.  “the  universe  wants  us  to  ring  in  the  new  year  together  !!”

theodora  is  laying  her  head  on  emma's  lap  less  out  of  affection  and  more  as  a  method  of  trapping  her.  “C'MON,  you  can't  be  that  mad  at  me  !!  i  came  back,  didn't  i  ?  i  was  only  gone  for,  like,  two  weeks  tops.”

she's  walking  hand  in  hand  with  julian  down  the  boardwalk,  smile  on  her  face.  this  isn't  the  first  new  year  they'd  celebrated  together,  but  this  one  felt  …  different.  “you  know,  i'm  really  excited  about  the  new  year,”  she  admits,  resting  her  head  on  his  shoulder  as  they  walk.  “i  think  we  should  go  to  new  york  this  year.”

navigating  the  windsor  family  had  never  been  easy,  and  elias  knows  there  are  only  four  other  people  on  the  planet  who  could  even  begin  to  understand  his  struggle.  he  owed  a  lot  to  the  men  in  front  of  him,  but  they  had  never  really  been  a  TALK  ABOUT  YOUR  FEELINGS  kind  of  family.  so,  while  there  was  a  lot  he  could  say  (  about  keeping  life  consistent  and  loving  for  him  from  the  very  beginning  ),  none  of  it  leaves  his  mouth.  instead,  he  asks  “any  big  goals  this  year  ?  or,  i  guess  …  next  year  ?”

ending  up  on  a  bench  with  winnie  was  probably  the  most  predictable  way  this  evening  could've  gone.  he's  half  buzzed  from  the  festivities  and  very  tired  (  seeing  how  he's  usually  in  bed  long  before  now  ).  he  takes  a  drag  from  his  cigarette  before  passing  it  winnie's  way.  “you  know,  my  personal  trainer  says  this  habit  makes  us  bad  in  bed.”

theodora  had  always  loved  the  ending  of  one  year  and  the  beginning  of  the  next.  never  in  her  life  had  she  been  a  planner,  but  the  new  year  presented  the  opportunity  to  LOOK  AT  THE  BIGGER  PICTURE.  ever  since  she  moved  to  cider  point,  she'd  attended  the  annual  ball  drop.  what  better  way  to  start  the  night  than  with  her  girls  ?  usually  nesrin  is  placed  in  the  middle  (  it  makes  sense  seeing  how  she's  the  smallest  ),  but  tonight  theodora  had  made  it  her  rightful  spot,  her  arms  linked  with  theirs.  “okay,  i  won't  force  you  ladies  to  be  with  me  at  midnight  …  but  i'm  formally  requesting  a  1am  debrief  of  your  nights  !!”
