This morning's 5k was inspired by my sister in law who ran a real one today.
Started at 2.5 mph. Slowly worked up to 3 mph.
At 12 min I started doing a 5 mph interval. First was one minute. Others were 45 seconds.
I am proud of this time, my last recorded in the gym wall was 64 minutes.
And I realized I was on a 3% incline.
I did take 2 quick breaks. One for a bathroom break.... got my period. Gross. Ugg.
The other to catch my breath.
Watched Prison Break end of season 3. These guys are getting me thru some tough cardio sessions.
I hopped on the bike to finish out the episode and cool down a bit.
I am working to build endurance. My lungs have been crap since covid. Long recovery. But I am hear and I am still fighting!
I know I have said this before... but I’m back!
SO, 2020 has been a shit year for everyone, but for me, it has sucked worse that I thought it would. I started out not working out, but then told myself we would work toward getting a gym membership. Then Covid hit.
I felt myself go downhill as I couldn’t visit with my family more. And when we did go out, I was terrified. I spent a few days visiting with friends from out of state sometime over the summer, but my anxiety was through the roof. Then we went to Cracker Barrel with some family, and my anxiety was through the roof.
Since then, we have only really gone out to go to the store, and it has been hard not seeing the people that I love. This week we will be taking my mother to see a surgeon, for some sort of back surgery, and can you guess it? My anxiety.... THROUGH THE ROOF.
I have gained almost 15 pounds this year. In the past few weeks, some pants are fitting better, and I’ve lost 1-2 pounds, which is nowhere where I want to be, but I am grateful for it. I just want to be healthier.
I’ve been eating better (for the most part- it’s hard to eat better when the main cook in the house cooks in a super southern style), and I just want to continue to do better. We have cut out pop, finally. I am limiting my coffee, eventually I need to work on getting to just black coffee, but for now I still see it as pretty gross. I am trying to drink more water. I have found myself more firm in my religion for the first time in years.
I tell you all of this to let you know that I will be posting more content, and to tell you that if 2020 has been as hard on you as it has been on me, or worse, if it has been even harder for you, know that you are loved and appreciated, and that things will get better, even if it just a little bit at a time.
This is a great reminder that veganism is neither a white thing nor unhealthy nor expensive nor time-consuming.
Greetings from your chronically ill disabled and piss poor vegan. 🥰
6,000 steps and it's only 230!
Think I may just hit 10k today - got the gym and my evening walk on the agenda still! Woo hoo!
Writing Tip:
“In graduate school, I remember having conversations with friends about whether the day’s work “counted” if it didn’t directly show up as words on the page. If you only count words, it can be very disheartening to know you’re working hard, but that it doesn’t count. That’s one reason I often suggest a time-based goal to people seeking to improve their productivity and their happiness.” - P.J. Silvia
