Summary:
"Let me get this straight. You really want me to stand in for you while you help Jin Ling settle in at Koi Tower?"
"Who else do I have?" Jiang Cheng snaps, ears turning scarlet as Jin Ling tries to pretend he isn't listening. "Father trained you to serve as my deputy, didn't he? And don't say you don't remember, or I'll break your legs."
"Well, yes," Wei Wuxian manages. "Uh. I'll just let Lan Zhan know I'll be at Lotus Pier until you're back at home, then."
In which Wei Wuxian spends the year before his wedding as Yunmeng Jiang's acting sect leader, and the cultivation world's greatest love story finds its happy ending with the help of three juniors, a teenage romance, and one very involved (and exasperated) younger brother.

Comments: And here’s another amazing WIP I just couldn’t wait to read. Admittedly, I love all letter writing fics but this one has so much more to offer. First off, Wangxian’s constant pining is done a bit differently here. Most fics start off with them being oh so careful of showing affection and saying too much but here... They’re basically calling each other “sweetheart”, break into each other’s rooms at night to kuddle and say “I’ll miss you so much”. It leans more heavily on WWX being oblivious to WHY they’re doing it than the gay fear of rejection. Poor Lan Zhan spoils him from afar, sending him the most expensive Lan style robes and jewelry and the object of his affection just... Doesn’t get it. I squealed every time someone observed them receiving a new love — I mean “friendship” letter and blushing to the roots. People ship it with a passion. The outsider povs in between Wangxian interactions are what makes this so good. Also tied in with the clueless pining is WWX’s own arc of becoming temporary sect leader of Yunmeng and dealing with his lacking sense of self-worth and leftover guilt. The author does a great job at painting a picture of his life and his feelings there. There’s also an accidental baby acquisition, shining side characters, WWX suffering from missing golden core sickness and a junior disciples arc with focus on Jin Ling and his friends (with uncle Jiang Cheng going feral in the background). I really enjoyed the slight canon-divergence of A-Qing surviving Coffin Town and ending up in Gusu, too. Can’t wait to see what comes of it all. If you enjoy alternating povs, schmaltzy letters and found family feels, this is the fic for you.
