OUTSIDE IN (2017) Grade: B-
Solid indie film. Tight script. Sensitive film that never takes the easy route with plot turns. I actually like the ending, brave.

Oscar "Spooky" Diaz as a father Headcanons based off shit my ex gangbanging brother-in-law does with my niece.
He rarely says his daughter's actual name. She's referred to as "beautiful", "gorgeous", "wonderful baby", any other cute nicknames you can think of he calls his baby girl it. Especially names in Spanish.
He speaks to her in English & Spanish equally.
He carries around a pink backpack as a diaper bag & dares anyone to talk shit to him. They never do his scowl is too terrifying.
His daughter is a daddy's girl.
So much so her first words were dad.
When she acts like a brat he argues with her like she is a grown woman even though she answers in baby talk. Ex: "hey don't get crazy at me like that." But ends up doing what ever she wants anyway.
He grows out his hair to match hers.
When her mom does her hair, pig tails, top pony. He requests his hair be exactly the same so they can match. Dares anyone to talk shit, no one does.
His daughter is used to loud music because he bumps his system every time they are in the car.
He started cooking for her way too soon & now she expects eggs every morning instead of that mushy baby food.
She seriously skipped the baby food & went straight to cooked meals.
He refuses to see the problem there.
Watches Elmo with her everyday.
Knows the lyrics to baby songs & sings them to her throughout the day.
Plays them in the car on his system while they drive around.
Once again dares anyone to talk shit.
Asks other former ex bangers if they could ever imagine him being how he is now with his daughter.
They all say no.
His daughter has so many uncles. SO MANY.

I woke up at 6 am & thought "we need a season 4 of On My Block so I can see Spooky happy & what he's like as a father" then looked at my tattooed ex con brother-in-law & was like "wait a minute".
These are all 100% true by the way. The food part is the worst. We spend all this money on baby food & when we try to give her some she looks at us crazy, like "where is my home cooked meal?
