Solid indie film. Tight script. Sensitive film that never takes the easy route with plot turns. I actually like the ending, brave.

next to normal is stuck in my head- time for pain (random thoughts i had, basically) (p3/?)

- just another day is such a good opening oh my god

- i esp. love natalie and gabe’s verses and THIS bit?? 

- gabe: feeling like i’ll live forever

- natalie: feeling like this feeling never goes away

- “i think the house is spinning”

- also in superboy and the invisible girl, the minute natalie tells diana “he’s not here, i am here” gabe appears RIGHT behind her and diana literally stops looking at natalie right as she starts speaking to her

- and says “you’re our perfect plan” and “i love you as much as i can”- and natalie isn’t even surprised

- “do you know, do you know, what its like to die alive” and “when tomorrow terrifies you but you’ll die if you look back” hit harddd

- i am the one reprise doesn’t get talked about enough, its so so pretty

-  “i am the one who watched while you died” no wonder this won a pulitzer

- i like the fact that gabe’s name is never said in the musical, so that “gabe... gabriel?” is also when the audience learns his name

- also since gabe says “and until you name me/ you can’t tame me” in im alive reprise, so the minute dan names him he disappears

- speaking of that song,, “this is one old game that i can play so weeeeLLLLLLL-” it sounds? so nice,, and the song starts so softly too- i just really like how it builds

- im alive is also just such a good song lol

- legitimately anything gabe sings is so disturbing but it sounds nice

- best example of this is there’s a world (one of my favorite songs, its so beautiful and weirdly calming but also incredibly disturbing and dark in context)

- its sung so gently and it feels so tempting and soothing

- the stage lighting up in blue the minute henry and natalie’s eyes meet in hey 3/ perfect for you reprise

- also the fact that natalie’s dressed in blue (“a vision in blue”) in that scene, and blue happens to be dianas favorite color (”valium blue”),, and coincidentally: also the color of gabe’s eyes (“sparkling eyes of blue”)

- i just love the natalie/diana parallels in general

- also: henry!!! what a good bf!!! “this planet is pretty much beyond all repair/ but one thing is working if you’re standing there” and “we’ll be the one thing in this world that won’t hurt” killed me,, i’m honestly just glad they wrote henry/natalie as a healthy relationship, thank god
