For Nevermatch, can I request Warriors getting injured in the MUALUAU with the focus being on how he and the others respond instead of the injury itself?
Hey Anon, thanks for the prompt! I’m not sure how well I’ve done, but I did my best! I really hope you enjoy! (It did get a little out of hand, lol)
“Okay, Hyrule, I need you in here with any healing items you have. Sky, help him with whatever he tells you,” Wild barked out as he worked to staunch the bleeding on Warriors’ leg. Sky jerked a worried nod before hurrying over to Hyrule’s side. “Four, Wind, I need you two to help me with bandages.” The sailor and smithy both came to his side swiftly, already pulling their bags out as they did so.
“What do you want me to do?” Time asked quickly. Wild shook his head.
“I need you staying with our two youngest—I can already tell they aren’t taking it well, and I’m focused here.” Time nodded quickly and went to Legend and Twilight, who were standing on the outskirts of their little triage area.
As Time walked, he fingered the ocarina that hung on his hip, reassuring himself that, should the worst happen and his little-big brother not make it, he could fix it. He could go back and change what happened. He didn’t care if he had to do it a hundred times, so long as his brothers, all eight of them, were safe and sound.
“Twilight? Twi? Buddy, I need you to talk to me, ‘cause you’re freaking me out even more than I already am and you can tell because I’m actually saying it and I’m word-barfing, Twi. Do you understand? I’m word-barfing. Me. Who doesn’t talk that much. Twi, come on, say something!” Legend begged, looking close to tears. Twilight was just staring at the bustle around Warriors—or at least, he was staring in that direction. Time wasn’t sure Twilight was really seeing anything. Legend startled when he saw Time out of the corner of his eye, then relaxed, if only back to the level of stress he’d already been experiencing.
“Time?” Legend asked, sounding lost. “Time, you gotta help Twilight, he’s not saying or doing anything, he’s just standing there and staring.”
“I’ll do what I can,” he promised as he stood in front of his descendant from who knew how far in his future and put his hands on Twilight’s shoulders.
“Hey, Twilight, can you look at me?” Dusky-blue eyes blinked and flicked up to look at him. “Hey, you’ve got Legend really worried, would you mind sitting down with us?” Twilight shrugged. Legend muttered a few choice words as he threw up his hands before getting settled down in the grass. Time guided Twilight down, and once he was down, Twilight tucked himself into Time’s side and shuddered, just a bit.
“He’ll be alright, Twilight. The others are taking good care of him.” It seemed that was all Twilight needed before he let himself fall apart.
Warriors was such a dummy. Yep, he was the biggest, dumbest, injured-est dummy in the whole history of Hylian Dummies. He was such a dummy, he could be used as a training dummy for children in the poorest, most out-of-the-way areas of Hyrule.
He got a sharp tap on the forehead when he said as much out loud in between groans of pain (if anyone said they were anything other than manly groans, he would deny everything).
“You are not a dummy, Wars; that Lizalfos got a lucky hit in,” Sky scolded as Hyrule continued his ministrations. He’d finished stitching up the laceration a few minutes ago and had moved on to putting some salve on it and wrapping it in the bandages that Wild, Four, and Wind had gotten together. Those three had gone to the nearby river to wash the rags that had been used to put pressure on the wound.
“Ow! Sky, I’m literally injured here! Hit a man while he’s down, why don’t you?” Warriors griped. Hyrule shook his head at them as he finished wrapping Warriors’ leg.
“Wars, Sky, don’t make me put both of you in time-out. Wild put me in charge for now, and that means I can and I will if I must,” Hyrule said with an almost manic gleam in his eye that promised some form of retribution. Sky ducked his head sheepishly, and Warriors turned and looked over at a particularly interesting patch of grass on his right. “Thank you. Now, Sky, how about you go let Time, Twilight, and Legend know that Warriors is available for visitors?” Sky nodded quickly, gave Warriors a smile and a gentle pat on his shoulder, then darted over to fulfill his task.
“Alright, Warriors, you’re going to be on bed rest for the next while. When we get back on the road, you’re going to be on Epona—no buts!” Hyrule said before Warriors could finish opening his mouth to protest. “In the event we get more red potions or Wild is able to whip up some more of those hearty elixirs, then you can walk, but I don’t want you doing much more than that. Even with a potion, you’re still recovering from blood loss, and we don’t want you passing out due to overexertion. Are we clear?”
Warriors could not believe this. He was a soldier! He’d done more than languish in bed with worse injuries! He’d fought off armies while bleeding from three different stab wounds! But he also knew that medics and healers weren’t to be trifled with once they had you in their grasp, so he decided that discretion was the better part of valor this time ‘round. “Fine, but I don’t like it,” he muttered.
Hyrule just smiled. “Didn’t expect anything different,” he said lightly.
Wind was ready to see Warriors, but he had to finish with his load of rags, which sucked. It sucked even worse because he was washing his little-big brother’s blood out of these rags. Honestly, it was hard; knowing Warriors was being taken care of was about the only cold comfort Wind had.
“Hey, Sailor? You think all the blood’s out of that rag yet?” Four asked, breaking through Wind’s thoughts. He looked at the rag he’d been scrubbing and saw that it was thoroughly cleaned, and now his hands hurt.
“Oh, aye, guess t’is,” he muttered.
“Is that the last one?” Wild asked, carrying his own load of damp rags. Wind looked at his pile and found that yes, it was his last rag to wash. Man, he was really out of it, wasn’t he? He nodded and started gathering the clean rags.
“Let’s go see how Warriors is doing, then, shall we?” Wild asked, and Four and Wind both nodded in response.
It seemed like everyone converged on Warriors’ bedroll at the same time. At first they were just sitting around, but then Four’s face crumbled and he started sobbing and threw himself on Warriors. After about a minute of that, everyone else joined the pile, one by one.
Not that Warriors minded, of course.
