Knock. Knock. Knock. While sitting on the stairs and reading my book, a light knock sounded on the thick wood to the door of the House of Lamentation. Gingerly placing the bookmark between the thin and yellowing pages, I set the book down on the step and head towards the door. Each step made the soft pat sound of my feet on the floor.
Grasping the handle, I twist and heave open the ancient wooden door. As the cool air sweeps into the entryway, I small figure rushes up and wraps me in a tight little hug. Looking up, I meet the eyes of my other visitor.
"Hello (Y/N)," says Simeon with a soft smile gracing his lips. "Thank you so much for watching Luke for me. I wasn't comfortable leaving him alone in Purgatory Hall, and all the demons and Solomon are also going to the Celestial Realm."
Smiling, I pull Luke deeper into the hug. "Oh! It's no problem at all Simeon! You know I adore Luke! Go and keep everybody in line for me since I'm not allowed to go. Don't worry about us here. We'll keep nice and busy together, besides you're only gone for a week."
"Don't worry Simeon!" exclaims Luke as excitement shines through his little eyes. "I'll be good and help (Y/N). Go keep those troublesome demons from causing Michael trouble."
"Hahaha, ok Luke. Well, I shall take my leave now." chuckles Simeon.
Kneeling down, I look Luke in the eye. "Why don't you go and settle into Beel's room? He's allowing you to use his bed while he's away since he knows that you're used to it."
"Ok!" exclaims Luke as he dashes through the house, bag in tow.
Standing back up, I turn to face Simeon again. "It'll be okay Simeon."
"I..." he lets out a deep exhale. "Something's wrong in the Celestial Realm. I'm worried about the others, to be honest, and I don't want to leave Luke. Not because he's with you (Y/N)! I... I just feel responsible for him."
"Simeon, that's perfectly natural. He looks up to you as a dad. I'll protect him with my own life. I promise. You better go or the others will be waiting. Besides, you told me yourself that all issues eventually work themselves out even if we don't know how." I state while wrapping him in a reassuring hug.
Pulling away, he gazes into my eyes. "Thank you (Y/N), and I suppose I should go. Send me pictures?"
"Of course!" I laugh out as he gives me the puppy eyes.
After one last hug, I finally convince Simeon that everything will be ok. I watch as he makes his way down the storm cloud grey stone walkway and past the gravestones in the front yard. Only after the wrought iron fence squeals shut and he disappears into the forest around the house do I turn around and close the door.
Letting out a deep breath, the soft pitter-patter of running feet hits the top of the stair landing. "(Y/N)!"
"Yes, Luke?" I ask, a soft smile touching my lips.
Looking up at me, his round little cerulean eyes melt my heart. "Can we make supper together?"
"Of course!" I exclaim while dragging him to the kitchen. "We could make Hellfire Noodle Stir-fry, Roasted Demented Hog, or we could make Barbatos's Shadow Soup."
Jumping up, Luke excitedly grabs the Shadow Soup recipe. "I want to make Barbatos's Shadow Soup! Then when he comes back I can make it just for him! Then he won't have to make himself or Lord Diavolo supper!"
"Oh Luke," I laugh heartily. "You're such a sweetie. Okay..."
We spent the next half hour chopping vegetables, making the broth, adding the meat, and other things. With Luke, it wasn't as lonely as the previous times everybody was away and the food was simmering before I knew it. Within minutes, the smell had wafted through the room and poured out into the other rooms of the house.
After a pleasant supper talking and laughing the time away with Luke, we quickly cleaned up and decided that I would teach him my mother's chocolate chip cookie recipe. I even told him her secret. (Take a towel and gently down the cookie to make it all gooey and soft.) When they were done, we ate way too much and savored the fact that Beel wasn't there to eat them all. We, well I, love him but sometimes I want my cookies.
These cookies are amazing! I thought (Y/N) was crazy to press them, but they're so gooey and soft! Looking over, (Y/N)'s eyes are shut as she savors the cookie with a little bit of chocolate around her lips. She probably misses her mom.
Mom... I wonder what it's like to have a mom? Aren't they supposed to bake and take care of their kids? The stories all say that a mom has a super special hug. One that always makes you feel like you're safe.
"Hey Luke, what do you want to do now? It's," (Y/N) turns to glance at the clock on the kitchen wall. "It's eight o'clock. We could watch a movie or read a book?"
I think it over, and then I get an idea. "(Y/N), could we watch Nightmare Before Christmas? You always say that it's such a good movie and that's it's for Halloween. Well, Halloween is in two weeks. Please?"
"Sure Luke." she chuckles. "However, I need you to go and shower first so that you're ready for bed."
"Okay (Y/N)!" I exclaim and without a moment of hesitation, I run out of the kitchen and to the Twins' room.
I quickly hop into the shower, but I can't seem to shake this thought rattling in my head, and no it's not why there are two shower heads in here. I get that they're twins but... I don't want to think about it. Anyway, I wish I knew what it was like to have a mom.
Is it really as good as everyone says? Is a mom really as awesome as she's made out to be? What would she do with me if I had a mom? Would she be like (Y/N)? (Y/N) will be a good mom, but she's not my mom. Besides, she'd want a normal child. I'm anything but normal to her.
Climbing out of the shower, I rush downstairs after yanking some pajamas on. I race down the stairs, feet hitting the wooden stairs with soft thuds. I fly into the movie room to find (Y/N) laying out the popcorn, blankets, and the movie in the DVD player. She's already showered and in her pjs. How did she do that all so fast? I wasn't in the shower too long... was I?
"Luke, the giant Harry Potter blanket is for you," she states pointing to a spot on the couch.
I move over and wrap myself in the blanket before realizing that she doesn't intend to sit with me. With a heavy blush on my face, I ask her a simple question. "Will you cuddle me during the movie?"
"Oh! I didn't know you'd want me to," she states shock laced through her voice. "Sure Luke. Let me move my things over."
Once we were comfortable, we begin the movie. I find it fascinating. The art is so cool, and the people look so weird. They made St. Nicholas look really weird, but I guess they were basing it off of the human holiday of Christmas.
Towards the tail end, my eyes start to grow heavy as I slump further against (Y/N). "(Y/N)?"
"Yes, Luke?" she asks me as she pulls the blanket further up.
I snuggle closer to her and let her drape it over me further. I feel... warm, safe, and... loved. "(Y/N) I have a question."
"Sure Luke, what's wrong?" she asks a little worried.
Looking up from where my head is rested on her shoulder I look into her eyes. "Is this what it feels like to have a mom? I'd like to have a mom like you."
Did he just... say that... he wishes he had a mom like me. "Luke, I..."
"Sorry," he whispers as a yawn slips past his little lips. "That must have been weird for you."
"No," I whisper. "It's okay Luke. I'm honored you think that."
He once more gazes his little face up towards mine. "Can I... call you mom?"
Surprise flicks down deep into my very core. He wants to call me mom? The little angel continues to slip further asleep as Jack and Sally's duet plays. "If you want, you can call me mom Luke."
"Alright, goodnight, yawn, mom. I liked the movie." and with that, the little angel fell fast asleep.
This is going to be a very eventful week. I'm certain Simeon would have passed out if he heard that. Slowly, the sleeping angel's breathing lures me to a deep sleep snuggled close to him.
This was requested, and I would like to say thank you soooooooooooooooooo much for asking. I greatly appreciate it, and I hope this was to your satisfaction. If you have any other requests don't hesitate to ask! Thanks!!
