Staying Fit when You’re in a Forced Exercise Break http://onecaremagazine.com/staying-fit-youre-forced-exercise-break/
I have been a runner all of my life - and that includes throughout my eating disorder as well as my recovery - I'm at BMI 18 but still haven't got my period back after 2 years. Any tips on what to do? I only do 30 minutes 5 days a week. Finding it hard to give up something I love ?
You do not have to give up something you love if you choose recovery, you have to take a break from it. If not, you will eventually have to give it up completely because of your health, as no period cause low bone density. Low bone density means even a light fall could make your bones break, and you might never run again. It is not whether you have low bone density or not, because I can almost guarantee you that you do.Of course you dont get your period back when you are underweight and exercise. You have to gain weight and take a break from exercise as soon as possible. Here you can read about the consequences of not having your period and being underweight, and here you can read about why you should not exercise.- Amalie
Taking A Break
Every once in a while, I get the intuition that my body needs a break. If you're still in the beginning stages of your fitness goals, I recommend continuing to go hard and push through each workout each day but if you're someone who has been exercising regularly for several months to several years, consider that your body may need a resting period. Turns out this was a good idea for me because I noticed an injury in the middle of my back recently so laying off of the heavy equipment for a while will be best for a quick recovery. In the meantime, I'm going to focus on stretching, yoga, and relaxation. I'll continue to stay active with my kids and go on walks daily but overall I want to treat my body well and give it a break. Another positive thing about doing this is when you finally get back to lifting weights again after a few weeks, you shock your muscles a little which initiates better growth and strengthening. Wish me luck!
Exercise break in recovery
”Hi, I just need everyone In recovery to hear this important experience: I have eaten 3000 cals and remained completely sedentary throughout recovery. During ED I ran all of the time to burn calories. Recently I was cleared for excercise again because I am in good physical and mental health and GUESS WHAT? I shaved 2 minutes and 15 seconds off of my ED mile time ALL because I sat around, rested, ate lots and got better. Now I run because it’s fun not because I need to burn calories and it’s even more fun because I can run faster and farther ( as long as I keep eating lots and lots, of course!. So if you needed another reason to recover, there it is!” - hotpsychedelicmess.tumblr.com Comment from Amalie; Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I actually had the same experience and it was so awesome! I did not exercise during recovery, but when I started after recovery, I suddenly had ''superpowers''. I was amazed. The mainstream thought is that when we take an exercise break, we get slower and less fit. In recovery that is a MYTH :)
