Writing fantasy vs writing what we know PSA

I’ve been writing my Choices fanfics for a few months now, and have written elsewhere in the past. We write our fantasies, but we also write what we are familiar with. For instance my first fic was about a threesome - never going to happen to me, and I don’t think I’d actually want it to, but it’s a fantasy of mine and I explored it as best I could.

My present fic with Bastien and Sophia has certain elements of my parents’ personality traits. Bastien is very like my father in that he is methodical and tidy to an obsessive degree - similar to my Dad but not as extreme. Sophia is more relaxed - my mother was exactly the opposite to my father and our household was a bit of a battlefield - not negatively, happily they found ways of tolerating each other in a loving way, and my characters are also going through that process.

I am planning to explore another theme that will not be easy. My youngest child recently came out as a trans woman, and I’m hoping to explore that as sensitively as I can. I understand if that is not a popular theme, and I’m not sure how far I will take it - but it will be a very personal journey. If anyone would like to discuss it I’d be only too happy to do so. Watch this space, I hope to incorporate it in Protect and Serve, though perhaps only for a short while. I’m sure a lot of other writers will understand that what we plan to do often takes us in unexpected directions...

MHA/BNHA thought that I want to get out of my head:

My hubby once said that Endeavor was basically Bakugou but older, and I agree to the point where I think All Might and Endeavor are basically grown-up parallels of Deku and Kacchan....But with a huge and important difference;

Endeavor is basically what Bakugou could one day become...ONLY if his pride were left unchecked. He’s Prideful, he’s bitter AF over All Might being above him, and it manifests in abusive and cruel ways, I.E. abusing his wife and children in determination to “Surpass All Might” with his progeny and the Quirks he has in his children. 

At first glance, it’s like how Bakugou feels towards Deku. He’s prideful too, and he’s insulted by the idea that Deku was ever looking down on him or could be surpassing him in power, and his inferiority/superiority complex is challenged once he gets to UA and Deku suddenly follows him there. It could be easy to think that he’ll just end up as the next generation’s version of Endeavor with that sort of similarity, possibly being second best to Deku when they become Pros. He’s angry and bitter and extremely prideful.

They even look similar, sometimes, especially in the anime, with the spiky hair and the permanently pissed off looks on their faces.

BUT that’s where his similarity to Endeavor ends. Bakugou is already showing signs that his mental state and outlook on heroics, Deku, and his own power are changing. 

An ongoing theme in MHA is the theme of the new generation being brought up, and becoming stronger and better than the one before it. Instead of focusing on ONE PRIMARY HERO, Horikoshi takes time to visit all of the young Heroes of 1-A and beyond. The nature of society in the story is actively changing after their one primary Pro-Hero All Might is forced to retire, to focus not on cultivating and depending on ONE hero to save them all, but MANY heroes to work together to save everyone. 

Even Bakugou’s animosity towards Deku is starting to get better, now that they have talked(and punched) some of their feelings out; he no longer thinks that Deku was actually looking down on him. More focus has been placed, by All Might himself, on the two of them learning their strength in working together instead of antagonizing one another.

Bakugou will not be the next Endeavor. Because Bakugou is learning and taking in the lessons that Endeavor clearly never did. 

Endeavor is only related to Bakugou in the way that he parallels what Bakugou COULD have become, if all the negativity in him was left unchecked, unchallenged, and unchanged, and if he was unwilling to adapt. Endeavor is a cautionary tale.

ANYWAY I know we probably all know this, but I think its really cool and an amazing detail in Horikoshi’s story so I had to just write about it.

Me: Pretty cool premise, I love alternate histories.

Me: Conflict, awesome, can't have a good show without that.

Netflix recommendations: It threatens to reveal the TERRIFYING SECRET behind the whole mission!

Me: ... they've been on Earth the whole time, haven't they?

Netflix recommendations: THEY WERE ON EARTH THE ENTIRE TI-

semester two : movement brief

after receiving the new brief for the semester, I created a mind map to help get my initially ideas down cleanly. the main four ideas I had for my theme were;

milestones = exploring movement through the types of movement we associate with important moments in your life, e.g.: first steps, learning how to ride a bike, walking down the aisle.

combat = movement through fighting- looking at fighting practices' e.g. : kickboxing ,martial arts ,sword fighting and choreographed fighting . I also thought about exploring combat in video games and animation.

animals = looing at movement through the theme of animals and insects e.g.; migration, anatomical movement and flying .

dance = exploring movement through dancing and dance trends in recent years e.g.; looking at historical dance trends and comparing it to modern day trends found on social media like TikTok ,plus looking at things like again, games similar to just dance and chorography found in music video's

while I did come up with some good ideas for each of these themes, the main one I chose to do for my movement project was combat ; exploring movement through the lens of how people fight.
