To bargain for our aid?

Do you seek to beg for us,

To clean the mess you made?

You have pleaded and you begged,

To your own mortal gods.

You bet your soul at crossroads,

Searching for better odds.

You have tried arcane powers,

Sought wisdom from afar.

Listened to the howling wind,

And wished on every star.

But all your gods are long dead,

And your options are gone.

And now you're left all alone,

Like a lost, yowling fawn.

But tales spoke of one last chance,

To save you from your fate.

The far side of the mushroom ring,

And through the arcane gate.

Now you find yourself in our world,

Where magic fills the air.

Where wicked things roam the land,

And life is what you dare.

Your kind do not belong here,

Humans are small and weak.

Yet you intrude here, so perhaps,

We might have what you seek.

You seek an edge in battle,

You seek a chance to win.

A chance to win your battles,

And vanquish ancient foes.

For the demons roam your world,

And aim to conquer all.

Released by your own folly,

Destined to be your fall.

It may be that we can aid you,

To turn the tide of war.

Bind to your blood a bargain,

Or do you fear us more?

We are not the little folk,

Benevolent to all.

That you needily portrayed,

To hide our wicked claw.

We are monsters in your tales,

Whispered by candlelight.

Evil, wicked, vicious things,

Wandering darkest night.

But we barter in good faith,

And we hold to our word.

For our kind to break an oath,

Is to this day unheard.

Are you desperate enough,

To make a binding pact?

After everything we said,

Will you sign the contract?

And so now we take a knife,

And whet the blade with blood.

Just a little drop will do,

No need to bring a flood.

So our bargain has been sealed,

We will aid in your plight.

A million swords and yet more,

Will offer you their might.

We will cross between the realms,

And strike swift at your foe.

The demon horde will tremble,

Their demise, we will sow.

And when the battle's ended,

And victory is known.

We will take our rightful place,

Sitting upon the throne.

We bring with us the magic,

That's long lost from your land.

And bind the force of nature,

To obey our command.

We will not take your freedoms,

Nor hunt you for our sport.

But forever you shall kneel,

To Lords of Faerie Courts.

This is the first Short Story for Tales from the Grove! This comic series is mainly for me to put out bite-sized magical stories, because I enjoy making them, but also a testing ground for bigger comics I want to make in the future! That being said, I like the story for Flightless Faerie Princess, but the art didn't exactly come out the way I wanted. I know I’ve been away for a while, although I try to keep y’all updated in my stories, but there’s been lots of stuff keeping me busy, and that will probably be true for the rest of the year. I hope I can have some more fun stuff to share with you guys soon, but you can absolutely find fun stuff on my Patreon! Comics, plant ramblings, and new printable planners every month are available at different subscription tiers, and sometimes I just post something public where I talk about what’s going on in my world~ I wanted to loosen up a little bit and try drawing something less strictly naturalistic, as I typically lean on. The colors were a great place for me to play with this, but anytime I try to draw some kind of magical creature from my imagination, it looks very human.
