Funny. This community loves reposting wholesome posts about love and mindfulness toward each and every person, while simultaneously lamenting that the fandom is shrinking. And yet, continue to act completely hypocritically, pointedly ignoring and "canceling" anyone who thinks differently or is deemed "inconvenient".
In this context, it all looks like selling Indulgences👌
Let me elaborate.
A mere two-week experiment since my return to Tumblr was more than enough for me. Tumblr has become a massive disappointment to me, and a lesson. A lesson in just how fake attention can be.
No one cares about you unless you stay within the bounds of the current mainstream and follow the lead of the so-called "opinion leaders" (the very ones who will be ready to 'cancel' you at any moment—don't be fooled by their temporary favor).
No one cares about you unless you repost everything in sight and leave likes.
No one cares about you unless you write praise-filled comments to all your followers, getting the same formulaic responses in return.
Tumblr is just a chain of mutual flattery meant to feed a personal deficit of attention. Real interest in your creativity or characters—something genuine and sincere—is rarely ever behind it.
And that makes the reactions from total strangers that pop up in my notifications all the more valuable. I won't delete my account, and I will still post something new here from time to time. But there will be no more self-deception and no more attempts to "fit in".
Why is every art advice is always “you don’t need to improve as an artist! You are good as you are! Good art is subjective.” And then in the same sentence they go “But you shouldn’t stagnate as an artist! Practice!!” Which one is it?
It hurts my head fake positivity.
It’s okay is your art looks like hot garbage ass and you draw horribly. Accept you sometimes draw like chicken scratch or your writing sucks.
Everyone makes mistakes as a creative. Love your shit masterpieces than pretend you’re perfect. Like fr most people draw stick figures anyway. No shame admitting that.
Why do people say that stuff about platitudes where they insist oh it doesn't really mean what it says, it means something more complicated that is only vaguely implied at best by the actual words used? Like that one "no-one can love you if you can't love yourself". The actual meaning of those words is blatantly untrue, deeply offensive and toxic. But people insist that it means some complicated stuff about how low self-esteem can make it hard to form and maintain relationships and blah blah blah but that's not what it says, Karen. If you wanted to express that then there are different words that actually mean that. I just used some of them! If you don't mean something blatantly untrue, deeply offensive and toxic, don't word things in a way that sounds like that! And maybe just consider that complicated and nuanced ideas around self-esteem and relationships can't be satisfactorily expressed if you reduce them down to a trite saying.
