Very long story that started with my trying to make a playlist for my friends otp and ended with me thinking about soukoku (as things often do)

It got me thinking about how Dazai and Chuuya can never really be separated, even with 4 years of distance and betrayal between them they are still deeply routed within each other. I think it’s stems from the fact that they were so intertwined as teens, it was messy and impossibly to undo - think like a bunch of necklaces that got tied in a knot. That meant that when the were ripped apart the divide wasn’t clean, they lost bits of themselves, they left remnants on each other - to continue with the necklace metaphor it would be like pulling them apart only to have the knot remain but each necklace now broken with bits of themselves stuck in the other chain, each necklace now broken.

Now technically they’re separate but they’ll never be rid of each other because there’s part of Dazai in Chuuya and part of Chuuya in Dazai. They are both incomplete whilst also holding each other’s missing pieces, but they can’t just give them back because they’ve melded the parts of each other into the holes that were left from the separation. Dazai cannot give back what is Chuuya’s because it’s a part of him now and vice verse. They’re stuck wishing for the parts of themselves that they lost but doomed to never be able to piece themselves back together because they’ve changed and adapted to what they stole.
