MORTAL SANCTUARY

Summary: The one year 'anniversary' of Astrid's betrayal weighs heavy on the guilty conscience of Listener and Matron, Chantilly Leice.

Content warnings: Paranoia, regret, betrayal & guilt. Canon events, violence and death. First person PoV.

Context: I know Arnbjorn is scripted to die in game. In my story CL arrives just in time to save him. Everyone else dies thou.

Fun fact there is actually in game a NightShade plant by the escape tower. It's inside Solitide by the gate of the tower if you were using it to go outside. It's near the food stalls.

Eight years. Eight years ago you told me that after I was recruited into the Dark BrotherHood. Family, safety. For seven years I was part of your 'family'. For seven years I did as you told. I served, and I killed, and I was part of your family. In some strange twisted way, you became the closest thing I ever had to a mother figure in my life.

But just like the people who were supposed to be my parents, you sold me off. A year ago you betrayed me. You saw me as a threat to your authority, your leadership. Years of loyalty meant nothing to you. I was nothing more than leverage in the end. And I still wasn't enough. My one purpose to you, my one final use, and I failed that as well.

I couldn't save them all. I couldn't save your family. I barely had enough time to protect the ones that survived. I am forever grateful for the ones who did, but I am forever haunted by the memories I have of those who didn't. The memories I have of them are tainted, thanks to you. I lost them. They're dead. It's my fault they died.

Do you know NightShade grows in areas associated with death? Areas where dead bodies lie. Places where someone was killed. Caves and homes that undead vampires inhabit. The exit tower you told me to take after poisoning the fake Emperor.

Some grow outside both Sanctuaries. There were always a few outside the Falkreath Sanctuary, even years before that day. Now, there's five more plants. Festus Krex. Gabriella. Veezara. Lis. You.

They others are doing well. Arnbjorn, Nazir, Babette, Cicero. There's been three new recruits since then.

I'm not doing well.

When I see a flash of black and red, my blood runs cold. Fear pumps through my veins faster than any drug could take affect. I instinctively reach for a dagger and search for a shadowy corner to drag them off to and slice their throat out. It's usually not a Penitus Oculatus agent, but there have been the rare times it was. Too many times for my comfort. What a sick irony that the BrotherHood and Oculatus uniforms share a similar colour scheme.

I'm constantly terrified that I'll loose them. That I'll come back to the DawnStar Sanctuary one day to find it ablaze, or that I will arrive far after the embers have died down, and find their charred corpses. That once again I will be too late to save someone.

They are the closest thing I have to a family, and I'm terrified at the thought of that. I'm terrified that if I say it aloud, if I think about it too much, they'll die. They'll be killed. And it will be all my fault again.

You were an idiot thinking you could go against somethin more powerful than you. I was a fool thinking I could allow myself to have a family.

Now I carry the Blade. I'm the Matron and Listener. Maybe it was supposed to be this way. I knew for years the way you ran the Sanctuary was wrong. Abandoning the Tenets, disregarding the Night Mother's authority. My authority, as Listener.

But what I wouldn't give for everyone to alive today. Arnbjorn said the others were already dead by the time I arrived. But that doesn't prevent me from thinking what could have been. If I was just a little faster, if I left a bit sooner.

I'll never have a family again. I can't allow myself to have a family, to cars for someone, anyone, like that again. Not after what happened that day. Not after you.

I hope you're happy with your decisions. I know I'm not with mine.

Scene: Bridgerton Season 2 (based on The Viscount Who Loved me by Julia Quinn)  After the Pall Mall game and dinner; just before the thunder storm He was so deep in his thoughts of Kate that he did not hear his mother enter the room. Lady Bridgerton stood for a moment observing her son carefully before she began speaking.

“Have you declared your intentions to her?” She was met by silence as he continued to work at his desk. “She did look rather lovely this evening.” “Yes she did,” He responded mindlessly “Green is a good colour for her.” He added without a second thought. “Green?” His mother asked. From her memory of tonight’s events she remembered Edwina wearing a blue dress. “Yes, green she did look lovely. It’s a pity we don’t get along as well as I would have liked to” He added. “What do you mean? I thought you got a long just fine with Miss Sheffield.” Lady Bridgerton replied.

“No we don’t” He said in a clipped tone, still not looking up from his desk. “She is stubborn and irritating--” “Do you mean Miss Edwina Sheffield?!!” His mother asked, effectively cutting him off. “What?” he asked looking up.

“Anthony, I was referring to Miss Edwina Sheffield” His mother said pointedly.

“Oh.” Anthony said, looking slightly embarrased at the realization of the comments he had just made towards Kate in front of his mother.

For a few moments the silence hung between the two of them awkwardly, but Anthony elected to ignore the elephant in the room and returned to his work silently praying for his mother leave. His mother stood for a few moments longer with a slight smile on her face before turning to leave.

Your body is warm

Win was sitting on his desk, preparing some stuff for the paper he had to get done. It was almost 11 pm. but Win wanted to get it done before going to bed. He was so into his work, that he did not hear the door of his room opening. Win was frightened a bit when he felt two strong arms slinging around his shoulders. "You´re still working?" he heard a familiar voice. Win laid his pen on the desk, turned around and smiled softly at the boy standing behind him. "Hello, Baby. Couldn't sleep again?" he asked his boyfriend. Team pounded. "I missed you," Team said and took a seat on Win´s lap. His hands were stroking the hair on Win´s nape, while the senior was holding his hips. "Why are you still working Hia? Arent, you tired?" Team asked softly. "I have so many things to prepare," the older said, trying to keep a yawn from escaping. He barely couldn't keep his eyes open. "Hia..come to bed" Team whispered against his lips, before he kissed him softly, one hand still stroking his blond hair. "I have to finish this, but when I am done.." "No, you are dead-tired. I can see it in your eyes. Please, Hia. I want to cuddle" Team pleaded softly. "I really have to.." Win tried to explain..but he couldn't end his sentence when he felt Team´s warm lips on his. The senior immediately melted into the kiss, forgetting what he wanted to say. When their lips separated another yawn left Win´s mouth. "See? You need to sleep, baby" Win smiled when he heard Team calling him his favourite pet name. "You called me baby," Win said with a smile. "I did" Team softly said with a smile on his lips. "I like that" "I know" the younger replied. "Maybe I am really tired because I think I just dreamed," Win said jokingly. "How about taking a bath before going to bed?" Team suddenly suggested. Win was surprised. First, he called him baby, and now he wanted to take a bath with him? Yeah, he must definitely be dreaming right now. But if this was really a dream he wanted at least to enjoy it. "Whatever you want..baby" Win whispered against Team´s lips before he kissed him again. The kiss was slow and short..too short for Win´s liking. "Come on, Win. I really want to take a bath. We can..continue later" Team said with a smirk and took Win´s hand to lead him to the bathroom.

"Should I help you?" Team asked as he watched his boyfriend slowly getting undressed. Win yawned widely, rubbing his eyes with the back of his right hand. "Seems like I am more tired than I thought" Win admitted. Team smiled softly at him before he helped Win getting rid of his clothes. After he helped Win to get into the hot tub, Team started undressing, while Win was watching with a soft smile on his lips. "You are so beautiful," Win said admiring. Team took his time getting naked, but Win was not complaining. He loved watching his boyfriend. Even though he was dead-tired, seeing Team naked was reason enough for him to keep his eyes open. Soon after Team was sitting behind him in the tub. "Your body is so warm," Win said softly. "Get some rest, Hia" Team replied while stroking him with his big hands. "I really like that" Win whispered with his eyes closed. Team gave him a light kiss on his neck, smiling. "I am glad. Try to relax a bit, Hia. I am here. You don´t have to be afraid of drowning or something." Win smiled again. "Do you think I could drown in a bathtub?" "If you fall asleep..you might. But don´t worry. Not as long as I am with you." Win turned his head to capture Team´s lips for a sweet kiss before he leaned his head back onto his chest. Team kept stroking his naked body until Win fell asleep in his arms. When Win woke up, he was laying in his bed with his head on Team´s chest and Team´s long fingers stroking his hair. Both were naked..and warm. Their legs were entangled. "You are awake?" Team suddenly said. "How did I get here?" Win asked sleepily. "I took you, of course. I didn't take you for a heavy sleeper" Team teased him. Win yawned before he cuddled onto Team´s chest again. "Your body is so warm" he whispered before Team put his hand on his chin to turn him around so their lips could meet again. "Go back to sleep, Hia" That was the last words Win heard before sleep took over him again.

Premise : You only likes the boys you never had chance with. For every crush you have in your life, you wrote one letter for them. It’s not like typical love letters because you wrote it when you’re going to get over your feelings and of course, you’re not going to give it to those boys.

But, one day, without you noticed, those letters were leaked. When you realized it, you knew you’re going to die soon because all of your love letter recipient started to approach you.

Jean

You met Jean first time at Church and find out that he also lives in the same neighbourhood when you’re two were just a kid.

You tought he was a girl at first because he was so pretty that sometimes you envy him because you felt lose as a girl.

The typical religious boy that goes to Church every week. You bet he brings Bible everyday to school (and yes, he actually does).

He’ll not hesitate to pull you and Napoleon to Church if one of you, or both you are skipping to Church.

Actually you were his first love.

He wanted to ask you to be dance in home coming, but instead you go with Sebastian :(

And, he was actually the one who got Napoleon’s love letter from you because you wrote the address wrong so the letter ended up in his mailbox.

The boy who lives next door and also your childhood friends along with Jean and Napoleon (but, he didn’t get along well with Jean because that guy is too stoic for him).

likes to go to your house by the windows (same at school).

He was actually the one who send all the love letters because he tought you’re going to send the letters.

You find out this thing when you find the green hat box (the one that you use to keep the letters) in his house.

“Dazai, do you mind to explain why the hell this box is in your house?”

He quickly escape before you can kill him and thinking about moving to another neighbourhood.

You two used up to be so close in 10th grade. He knows that you like him and you also know that he likes you.

Almost dating, but yeah, almost.

His lifestyle are somehow too extravagant for someone broke like you. You can’t afford yourself to be Cinderella because being Cinderella is not your type.

But most of the reason was because you also hate his fangirls and some juniors who keep terorrizing you because you close to him.

And for the sake of your mental health, you decided that you two are not meant to be, so you wrote the letter to express your feelings before you get over it.

So, he immediately approach you after received the golden coloured love letter.

“Ma cherie, let’s start over again.”

Your mother’s friend’s son. Your mother really admire him because he can do the household chores well, unlike you :).

You kinda hate him a little bit because you’re mother always comparing you to him. 

But, he’s actually nice. He sometimes makes brings brownies and delivered it to your house.

And you also had a crush on him (for awhile) when you’re in 4th grade because he always fed you with sweet things almost everyday and he’s the one who always brought your umbrella everytime it rains and you forget it.

He clearly likes you, but you just too dumb to notice it.

So, when he saw you close with Napoleon and see you so happy around that boy (he’s also dumb to notice that you liked him before), Sebastian decided to moved on.

It takes him for years, before you crushed his effort by asking him to the homecoming dance.

He still likes you.

He popped up in front of your house at evening with the grey love letter in his hand.

“y/n, i could bake those brownies again and bring your umbrella whenever it rains and you forget it, so please be mine.”

Scene Bridgerton Season 2 (based on the Viscount who Loved me by Julia Quinn) Right After Pall mall before Anthony and Kate walk back together.

“That was a well played game Miss Sheffield” Daphne said as she approached Kate.

Kate could not help but smile to herself because of the outcome of the game.

“Thank you, your grace” Kate replied.

“Oh please, you must call me Daphne, from what I understand we should soon be family!” Daphne said warmly. “Oh, right” Kate said glumly suddenly reminding herself of the current circumstances. “I see you have reservations regarding my brother” Daphne said. “I mean, I do not blame you in the slightest, I understand my brother has a certain reputation and as an older sibling you want only what is best for your sister.” “Yes it is just that” Kate emphasized quickly in an attempt to convince Daphne that the Viscount’s reputation was the reason why she was against the match (and not anything else). 

“He has been given the huge responsibility of managing our family when he was not ready to do so and I think despite everything he’s done the best that he can. And I have no doubt he will protect and care for your sister, for the rest of her life just as he does with us.” Daphne said.

Kate pondered what Daphne had just said and looked up to see Anthony a couple hundred meters ahead playing with his younger siblings while simultaneously trying  to gather all the equipment from the game.

Kate could not help but believe in what Daphne had said about Anthony.  While she continued to look at him with his younger siblings, she quickly realized that this would probably the first of many things that would convince her to change her opinion of him. And She wasn’t entirely sure how she would feel about that.
