What stands out to me: First thing were the colours - they’re really nice! I’m not sure if Cassian’s parka was this shade of blue in the movie but it’s very pretty! (Also, the parka seems to fit him better, like he’s finally grown into it, which is a very endearing thought *lol*) Also the pose, it’s so protective and a liiitle bit possessive - but for both in equal measure! And Jyn just fits perfectly right underneath his chin, that’s a sweet detail as well. (Also I’m quite impressed with the shading on the fur and on Jyn’s scarf btw)

Overall vibe: I feel like someone’s caught them in this pose, since they’re both blushing. And idk the lack of background always makes me think “Hoth”, because snow, but I hope it isn’t because of their poor fingers ^^

What stands out to me: OW. My poor girl :( Judging by the clothes and the hair, I’m guessing this is some time before Wobani? Using just the red and no other colour is a really cool touch, it really draws your eye to the wounds..I like the topic choice here as well - that’s something I’ve also gone back to once or twice, the literal chafing of those shackles, so this is a really good visiualisation of her overall trauma, poor soul...

Overall vibe: Again, OW, and she looks so sad and lonely. But there’s also a lot of defiance in her, which is great character work!

What stands out to me: It so tender - this is a theme for me for your art, there’s so much emotion in them. I don’t really know how to explain this, but I get the feeling you really empathise with your characters, and it really shows in your art, there’s a lot of emotional depth and appreciation for the characters. I love that - the colours help, too, they’re lovely and warm. I really really like the skin tones in this one, and the background is lovely. Also also I really love the colour of Jyn’s shirt and would please like one like this. And the facial expressions are great, again, so tender, ugh, look at them, so in love and so peaceful. I’m genuinely so impressed with how well you do expressions with so few lines, because back when I used to draw I really used to overdo it, I was just laying shadows on shadows on shadows until the paper was completely black *lol* So yeah, this is super impressive.

Overall vibe: ....... I should make more effort to separate the categories. So yeah, quite warm and soft and tender and a very quiet, peaceful moment.

Suddenly realizing you like your friend much more than as just a friend.

What stands out to me: The colour scheme, which I guess is the point here? Like, at first I didn’t really know about that shade of red, but it grew on me after looking at it for a moment. It gives the whole image a slightly surreal feel, which is cool because this is time kind of slowing down in the moment of realisation.I really like the way you used the red in Jyn’s face, it looks really pretty. And it’s pretty apt that realisation doesn’t come in like, a big moment where he saves her or something, but just seeing him across the mess hall, not even looking her way, doing his job, typical Cassian. It really embodies their dynamic quite well. Also, and this is probably extremely unrelated, but the colour is really similar to the one Pantone chose for Colour of the Year 2019 (x) and it’s supposed to be “life-affirming, nurturing and symbolising optimism”, so basically... that’s hope. All very unrelated, but a cool coincidence?

Overall vibe: (look imma just do phrase association here Sasha idk) a moment out of time, a bit dreamlike, flushed cheeks, a warm feeling in your chest.

A Slow Kiss

What stands out to me: This is one of my favourite works of yours, actually! It’s so tender, again, the expressions, and I really like the positioning (?) stances (?) I’m sorry Sasha, it’s very late THe wAY THeY’RE STANDING okay. And I love how minimal it is, it gives it that impression of it just being this little fleeting stolen moment. Again, there’s so much emotion in your art, THEY’RE SO IN LOVE look at it *wipes tear*.

Overall vibe: again, this is so tender, they seem so completely lost in the moment.

So, as most of my readers have probably noticed by now, I have a Thing for Cassian’s lost family, so this fic was very much up my alley personally.

Things I loved in this:

- Isobel is a great, great child narrator, she’s so endearing and so realistic, and you really come to love her in those few paragraphs, and really feel her loss. - The emphasis on Cassian’s loss and how badly he’s been able to deal with it, despite and due to him having found a home for himself again, someone willing to take care of him, is perfectly executed. - A wonderfully done, super sad and quiet dream sequence that really pays off. I love dream sequences in general, especially those that kind of meddle with past memories, and this is a gem!

Overall vibe:

There’s so much love in this, strong themes of family and a very clever use of warmth and cold. It’s very sad, but it’s hopeful too, because Cassian comes full circle, despite still feeling the loss - he’s home again. It’s a subtle, well-made point and one of my all-time favourite narratives.

Feedback “giveaway”

So, since I’ve been super bad about this in general all year and frustrations seem to be running high in a lot of our most active artists here, I think I want to do something for Christmas. I will limit this to my followers for now, depending on the feedback I get for this I might open it up further at a later date.

First of all, this is very much inspired by a project @sleepykalena did earlier this year that was really cool and that I encourage everyone to check out, a lot of gems in there! (find it here)

Now, for the actual project:

Any of my followers who create fic or art can send me something they created in the Rogue One fandom and I will write up a post about what I enjoyed, what stood out to me about the work and what vibe I got off of it overall. (Please note that if it’s very explicit work, my feedback probably won’t be very extensive or helpful - if you really want to send that in, I’ll read it, but it’s not usually my cup of tea so I don’t think my feedback is what you are looking for.)

If you write fanfic, send me one work of yours that you’re very proud of/that you would have liked to get more feedback on! Please keep it to texts under 5k, otherwise I’ll have a look at the first chapter of a work.

If you draw/paint/create manips/moodboards or other visual art, send me up to three works that you’re very proud of/that you would like to get some well-meaning and uneducated feedback on!
